Anthony Hamilton the Point of it All Early Album Review

The Soul Crooner Delivers Another Solid Album

The Reviewer
Anthony Hamilton is definitely not the typical artist you expect in this era. As an artist, Anthony Hamilton channels music from a completely different era. His soulful voice and vocal delivery have earned him a strong and loyal fan base. Now Anthony Hamilton is back with his latest album The Point Of It All. Will The Point Of It All further Anthony Hamilton's legacy?

The first single off of The Point Of It All is Cool featuring David Banner. The song is much more modern than anything you expect from Anthony Hamilton as an artist. However, the track just does not seem to work. David Banner delivers a fairly standard guest appearance yet that ultimately cannot save the track.

The album opens with The News which sounds like vintage What's Going On Marvin Gaye. The song just works well and has that whole vibe.

The Day We Met is more contemporary soul with a harsh drum beat and contrasting piano rifts. However, unlike Cool this track works extremely well.

Diamond In The Rough is another slice of soul heaven. The song has the passionate vocal delivery that is missing from modern music today. The writing and musicality are also strong.

I Did It Fo Sho is different than what you expect from Anthony Hamilton. The writing on the track just seems almost awkward being delivered by him.

Hard To Breathe is probably the strongest track on the album. The song is vintage Anthony Hamilton and is timeless. This is the type of song lacking from mainstream music.

Soul's On Fire an impassioned vocal delivery from Anthony Hamilton. The vocal performance is one of the strongest on the album especially the chorus.

Please Stay is more in the vein of neo-soul than just soul music. The song proves that Anthony Hamilton is comfortable in both genres.

The title track The Point Of It All is a fairly solid track which interesting musicality throughout the track. However, it is not one of the strongest tracks on the album.

Fallin' In Love is not dissimilar than a track you would hear from Gnarls Barkley. The track has that same feel to it.

Overall The Point Of It All is another solid album from Anthony Hamilton. The veteran soul singer has a few missteps on the effort; however there are more than enough bright spots to be a solid album. Overall The Point Of It All gets 8 out of 10. If you are a fan of Anthony Hamilton make sure you pick up The Point Of It All when it is available in stores on December 16th.
