The 37 year old Hamilton is still trying to take his career to the next level. He is looking to become more of a mainstream artist by changing his style somewhat and pretty much abandoning the old school soul sound that we are so used to hearing from him. Even though the sound will be different, Anthony Hamilton promises that his faithful fans won't feel like he sold out on them. The plan has been to record more up-tempo, upbeat songs and not sing so many depressing songs. He has a new album coming out titled The Point of It All, in which he will display some of that new sound.
Anthony Hamilton told the Associated Press that the change partly comes due to the fact that he has a beautiful wife now, which brings happiness to his life. Fans know that his previous music was very melancholy and even though it makes good music, we don't want to see him depressed in his real life. When asked how it felt to record more up-tempo songs, Anthony Hamilton talked about how he used to be a break dancer, so he likes music that he can dance to. Even though the songs will be more up-tempo they will fit his persona. We won't be hearing him sing any songs that are too fast or out of his character. He commented on how the economy is bad for Americans and he really wants to uplift the people instead of feed their depression.
Artists like Anthony Hamilton, though already successful, haven't quite reached the mainstream exposure that gets an artist on the cover of magazines. This is partially due to the fact that he has stayed true to his sound. Unlike many commercial artists who mostly make songs for the club, Anthony Hamilton is a recording artist that makes music that people can listen to and feel. Hopefully his new sound will not totally stray away from that, as he said it wouldn't, and his songs will be able to make us to dance and make us think at the same time.
