Anthony Hardwick Complained About Having to Work on Thanksgiving Holiday for One Hour

Karen Barnes
By now you have heard about the plight of Anthony Hardwick who thought having to go to work at midnight on November 25 ruined his Thanksgiving. He thought he should have the day off for the holiday. Mr. Hardwick needs to man up and work his job so he can support his fiancee once they are married.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news Anthony, but as of midnight when you had to be to work ended Thanksgiving Day for you and millions of others who celebrate this holiday. Technically your holiday wasn't ruined because you had to be at work at 11 p.m.

If you are still up eating that time of night with family members something isn't right. Even if you missed one hour of Thanksgiving Day with family, you do have 364 other days to spend with your family and friends who may not have a job and would give their shoes to have the one you are complaining about.

Unlike most other retailers on Thanksgiving Day Anthony, Target chose to close for the day. This gave you ample time to spend time with your family, eat your dinner, and get some sleep before working five and a half hour shift.

What you failed to realize Anthony, during the time you will be working, there will be two things your family will doing. They either will be sleeping or getting up to go Black Friday shopping. Either way you haven't missed much of your Thanksgiving Day.

What you may soon discover Anthony is Change.org is just a website to set up a cause to stop one thing or another people don't like. That doesn't mean your cause will affect anyone. People have been complaining about working on Thanksgiving for as long as I have been working in retail.

For those who had to work on Thanksgiving, their holiday might have been ruined by having to work. What you might not realize Mr. Hardwick is those who worked between midnight and midnight on this Thursday holiday may have chosen to do so. Also, they may be more thankful to have a job than you since they didn't go all out on the Internet for a cause like you seem to think you have.

Then there are those who work in hospitals, police and fire departments, and in our military that didn't see a moment with their families on this Thanksgiving Day that you are complaining about having to work an hour of Mr. Hardwick. Anthony Hardwick now how do you feel about these folks who work to save lives and defend your freedoms every year working on Thanksgiving? How would you have felt if your grandmother, mom, in-laws, fiancee, or anyone else you love needed these folks but weren't at work because they had Thanksgiving off?

My advice to people like this is always the same ... "If you don't like your job, then quit and find a new one." He shouldn't be in retail if he's going to complain about the hours.
