Lynn Turner Could Be Found Guilty for the Second Poisoning of Her Ex-lover and Put on Death Row

Lynn Turner, an ex-911 operator who was accused and found guilty of the murder of her former husband Glenn Turner, a Cobb County police officer in Georgia, is now undergoing a trial for a second murder of Randy Thompson. Lynn poisoned Glenn using antifreeze has is suspected to had done the same to lover Randy Thompson.

Antifreeze is deadly when consumed; the ethylene glycol absorbs into the bloodstream and may take up to a few days to finalize death by a combination of kidney failure, heart attack, and coma if not treated.

Friday, March 23rd 2007, the jury that convicted Lynn of the death of Glenn Turner, was tasked to decide whether or not to give the death sentence to Lynn for the second murder of Randy Thompson, who was a Georgia firefighter and her ex-lover with whom she had two children. Randy Thompson also suffered the same fate as Glenn Turner, poisoned by antifreeze. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation found calcium oxalate crystals in the kidney tissues of both the deceased, which are a dead giveaway that antifreeze was used maliciously.

Both of the victims checked into the emergency room, claiming to vomiting and severe headaches. Doctors assumed it was a simple case of dehydration and gave them IV's of fluids, and were released shortly after their claims to feeling better. Randy and Glenn both died after their visits to the hospital, they were found dead in their homes and the initial cause of death was simple heart failure, until more recent investigations ensued.

These are the only two cases of murder by antifreeze ever recorded in Georgia. Lynn Thompson was the last person around both of these men before they died, and prosecutors are pushing to get her charged with the second murder of Randy Thompson, which will be determined by the introduction of "similar transaction evidence", even though there are no witnesses or any concrete evidence, there is a very strong circumstantial case that prosecutors can use to their advantage, and that the jury will recognize.

Although Lynn Turner has not taken the stand and assumes her innocence, it is said that she killed the men in attempts to get a fat life insurance check. She had outstanding credit bills and numerous bank overdrafts that she couldn't pay. When the men died, she received almost $200,000 in life insurance checks. Prosecutors are using this as a motive for murder.

Lynn is currently serving a life sentence for the death of Glenn Turner. If she is found guilty of also murdering Randy Thompson she is expected to receive a death sentence.

  • Death by antifreeze is slow and painful, shutting down the kidneys and inducing coma.
  • Lynn Turner could be sentenced the death penalty if convicted of her second antifreeze murder.
  • Only two human deaths from antifreeze have ever been recorded in Georgia.
