Anti-Aging the Cenegenic Medical Institute Way

The Cenegenic Medical Institute with five locations across the USA is a medical institute devoted entirely to "age management". The centers are located in Las Vegas, Charleston, SC, Boca Raton, FL, Dallas/Ft Worth, TX, and Bloomington, IN. The program that the center offers includes teaching individuals how to inject themselves with HGH (human growth hormone) six times a week and prescribes a handful of supplements to take on a daily basis.Growth hormone (GH) is a peptide hormone that stimulates growth and cell reproduction in humans and other animals. Human Growth Hormone is technically illegal to sell for non-approved uses, but medical centers such as Cenegenic give their patients blood tests that show they have HGH deficiencies and prescribe legal prescriptions, although they are not covered by most peoples' health insurance plans. Growth hormones naturally start declining after age 30 in most people and by age 60 there is on average about 50% less growth hormone than existed at age 30. However, there are serious medical conditions caused by growth hormone deficiencies in children that may delay sexual maturity and may continue into adulthood causing a pituitary adenoma. This, however, is quite rare.

An MSNBC article written March 30, 2006, stated, " US Sales of HGH in 2004 totaled $622 million for legal and illegal uses and 74% were purchased by people over the age of 20". Additionally, Medco's latest drug trend reported that HGH use grew by 6% in the year 2007.

The Cenegenic program also incooporates a drastic diet and excersie change and testosterone shots for men. The program includes counseling with a general physician, a nutritionist, and a exercise physiologist. The testosterone shots for men combined with the HGH shots has been shown on average to lead to a 10 pound increase of lean body mass (muscle) and fat loss of around 10 lbs as well. These numbers were found in a study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association in which the patients did not alter their diet and led sedentary lifestyles. If this was the result without exercise and diet you can only imagine the metamorphosis once these factored are altered. With that being said, for women taking sex hormones their was little or no difference than taking the HGH alone. Taking the HGH alone led to several pounds of increased muscle and on average a five pound fat loss when there was no change to diet and exercise. The study conducted at the National Center for Contemporary and Alternative Medicine led scientists to observe the negative side effects resulting from HGH shots. These serious side effects included pre-diabetes and diabetes, aching joints and swollen tissue, and arthititis.

The TV Show 30 Days by Morgan Spurlock (of Super Size Me fame) did an episode on anti-aging where an overweight 30 year old former athlete took the HGH/dietary supplement cocktail. He also began exercising and eating better while under the care of his general practicioner. The man had to terminate the taking the HGH shots before the end of the month because it had reaked such havoc on his body. For the same reason that menopausal women have been discouraged from taking estrogen pills I think it should be common sense that injecting your body with synthetic hormones out of no medical need is harmful. While there is certainly some interest in the medical community as to what good HGH can do, it is a ridiculous notion that the hormone should be injected before the research and saftey can be determined to simply delay a natural part of life.
