Anti-Cruelty Society Now Accepting 2011 Marathon Sign-Ups

I didn't realize how fast slots for the Anti-Cruelty Society's annual marathons fill up, until my friend told me that she almost didn't get in last year because she waited too long. The Anti-Cruelty Society, located at 157 West Grand Avenue in Chicago's River North neighborhood, will sponsor the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 9, 2011 and the Rock n' Roll Chicago half marathon, that will be held on August 21, 2011.

To sign up, you need to sign a waiver, and although you're not required to show proof of a physical examination, they do advise you to undergo a complete physical, which includes an EKG.

In addition to signing the waiver, I was instructed by the Anti-Cruelty Society that I would need to first raise 600 dollars for the society in donations before I could participate. I was also told that if runners are not able to raise the 600 dollars, they would be charged the amount and would need to pay it before October 9, 201 -- the day of the Bank of America Marathon.

Since openings fill up so quickly, unless there is a cancellation, people who wait too long might not have an opportunity to run.
