My solution is Johnson's Baby Oil Gel. I know I said that my hair is naturally oily at the roots, so why on earth would I add baby oil to my hair? It is not the baby oil but the technique in which it is applied that rids my hair of frizz and gives me soft curls.
If your hair is like mine, oily at the roots, then squirt a quarter size glob of the baby oil gel into the palm of your hand. Rub the oil into your hair starting half-way down your hair. Do not get the baby oil gel near your roots.
My hair length is to the middle of my back when it is wet. I use between four and five squirts of the gel to saturate my hair.
Next, take a shower comb. A shower comb is a wide, thick-toothed comb that is designed to be used to comb your hair when your hair is wet. Start to comb your hair at the ends in order to detangle your hair without pulling it out. Work your way up each section of your hair. Do not comb up to your scalp, instead stop combing about three inches from the hair root.
Leave the baby oil gel on your hair for at least ten minutes, which is about long enough to put a couple of loads of laundry away (wash your hands a couple of times so that you don't get oil on your clean clothes) or do a quick clean of your bathroom. You can wrap your hair in a towel so that you don't get any oil on your clothes.
Wash your hair with your normal shampoo. I use Pantene Curls shampoo and conditioner. After the first shampooing, feel your hair. If it still feels really oily then you may want to wash and rinse it again. Condition and style your hair like normal.
If you like the wet curl appearance, then only wash your hair once. I do not like that look with my hair, so I always wash my hair twice, use conditioner, and let my hair air dry.
I use the baby oil gel once a week in the summer and winter to treat my frizzy hair. In the spring and fall, I use the baby oil gel about once every ten to fourteen days.
I prefer the baby oil gel because it is not as runny as normal baby oil or any hot oil treatments. The baby oil gel holds to my hair, protects it, and rids my hair of frizz leaving soft curls.

Post a CommentJust say no to frizz! :P I just got a perm and love this advice. Thanks for sharing.
Jennifer: put the baby oil on dry hair before you wash it. You will wash most of the baby oil out but enough will remain to form curls.
I am confused. Are you supposed to put the baby oil onto wet or dry hair?
This is a great article. I too have FRIZZY hair and hate it, which is why I have straightened it for 57 years. BUT, baby oil really does work. And the article is right in saying don't put it next to your scalp. I scuba dive often and of course I am not going to straighten my hair during diving, so I have found it best to use even regular baby oil. A few drops rubbed into my hair and my hair looks pretty good out of the water. I don't have to look like a u-bangee any more.
Good idea. I have the same problems so I will try this. Thanks.
