The owners, William Slade and John Rapp, have already opened their doors at 248 East Lincoln Highway.
You might remember their old store that closed in 2000. It was located near the Union Pacific tracks on South Seventh Street, just across from the BP station.
The new store is right on the Historic Lincoln Highway, between Second and Third Streets, on the south side of the street.
A stroll through the store reveals fine antique furniture, knickknacks, old vinyl records, tapes, books, beer memorabilia, marbles, fishing items, old action figures, wall art, jewelry, figurines, china, silverware, photographs, post cards, lamps; an old, portable hand cranked record player, vintage magazines, some Elvis memorabilia, old tools, and much more. Right now there are quite a few baseball cards, and other collectible cards. You are likely to see some of the items that you played with as a kid being sold, like the small, plastic figures of American Presidents on display under the glass of the case, next to the old eye glasses.
Slade says that business so far is good, picking up as time goes by and people discover, or rediscover, the store.
The owners continue to scour local auctions and estate sales for interesting stock, and they have other sources that they have developed over the years. Anyone who has old items that they might like to sell can bring them to the store. They might walk away with some cash. The owners are always looking for interesting items to resell.
Other news about downtown includes a new paint job, sprucing up the facade of the old Fargo Theater building at the corner of Seventh and Lincoln Highway. Howard Eychaner sold the building a few years ago and the new owners have been slowly improving it. The theater area itself is now rented by Blue Van storage, and the foyer area is occupied by Debbie's Dance Dimensions. Some months ago the old theater marque was taken down. That makes two downtown buildings that used to be theaters, the other being the DeKalb Theater building on Third Street.
Just across the street from No Strings Attached another store front is undergoing heavy renovation. One can see that new stairs leading up to the apartments have been built and a completely new facade is going up.
The hours for No Strings Attached are 10-6, Tuesday through Saturday, and the business phone is (815) 762-7375.

Post a CommentThis shop owner broke the law!
Forty-four states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have laws that specifically allow women to breastfeed in any public or private location. This shop owner clearly violated this law by demanding a mother whom was nursing her hungry child to leave the store or stop feeding her child. Weather or not you agree with nursing in public it is perfectly legal to do so.
What is wrong with asking a mother to cover up?
It implies that the mother and baby are engaging in a shameful or distasteful act when, in
fact, the baby is simply eating.
What about the right of others to NOT see someone nurse in public, especially while eating?
If breastfeeding offends someone, they may ignore it, turn away, ask to be moved, or leave. A nursing mother and baby are not responsible for another person's comfort level. Nor is it a nursing mother’s responsibility to support and perpetuate others’ prejudices against a normal, natural act.
5 stars all the way!
I GO TO NO STRINGS ATTACHED EVERY WEEK. FULL OF GOOD THINGS AT GREAT PRICES. ITS AWSOME PLACE. HIGHLY RECOMENDED.........
THIS IS THE OWNER OF "NO STRINGS ATTACHED". IN RESPONCE TO KEVINS REVIEW. I CHECK MY MERCHANDISE BEFORE BUYING AND SELLING. I AM FAIR IN DOING WHAT I CAN WHEN PROBLEM OCCURS EVEN IF I HAVE TO TAKE A LOSS. UNFORTUNITLY IN BUISNESS YOU COME ACROSS ALOT OF LIERS AND THIEVES. KEVIN HOPPER IS ONE OF THEM. THEY BOUGHT A USED CAMERA FOR 15 DOLLARS THAT WAS CHECKED AND WORKED JUST FINE. HIS ACTIONS WAS SHAMEFUL AND A DISGRACE TO SOCIETY. RUDENESS AND LIEING THIEVES ARE NOT AND SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED BY ANY BUSINESS OWNER. ONLY PEOPLE WHO APPRECIATE A GOOD DEAL ON NEW AND USED COLLECTABLE, FUNCTIONABLE, AND NEEDED ITEMS ARE WELCOME IN MY ESTABLISHMENT. IF YOU CANT BEHAVE LIKE A RESPECTABLE ADULT IN A MANS STORE. YOU DON'T BELONG THERE. I AM NOT PERFECT, BUT I TRY MY BEST TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT AND FAIR. GUYS LIKE KEVIN HOPPER ARE NOT WELCOME UNTIL HE DECIDES TO BE A MAN AND APPOLOGIZES FOR TRYING TO RIP ME OFF AND HIS IGNORANT RUDENESS. PERIOD.................. TO ALL OTHERS I AP
My wife bought a digital camera for my handicap sister on her lunch break and on her way back to work she noticed the battery door was broken.
We went back the next day and showed him the broken door and he kept saying all I see is a camera that works.
I kept replying yes but with a broken battery door.
He then accused us of breaking the door saying he would have noticed it before he sold it to my wife.
It was obvious he knew it was broken when he sold it and would not refund our money or give us credit towards another camera.
The best we could get was to sell it back to him for half of what we paid for it.
Caveat emptor.
He sells junk.
I and all whom I know will never go there.
