While most antique style wall clocks hang directly on the wall, a few come with a metal piece which mounts to the wall and hangs the clock; the C632 world map clock and the London street clock reproduction (both available on eBay) are two examples of this. The C632 is a double-sided clock, allowing it to be mounted on a wall and viewed from both directions. With few exceptions (such as the C545 train station clock), most antique-style clocks lack a second hand. The vast majority have roman numerals, with the exception of 1950s-style models and a few others.
Some antique style clocks sound on the hour and/or half hour, including cuckoo clocks such as the River City 807-17. These wall clocks usually do not have an alarm feature, but this is available on some other types of reproduction clocks. Some reproduction wall clock models use batteries, while others require occasional winding, thus reducing battery costs. If the clock requires winding, the manufacturer will sometimes indicate how many days it runs on each wind-up; many (including some Kassel models) will run for thirty-one days, although some require weekly winding. Few or no reproduction clocks are available which run on AC power. A few clock models feature "weathered" looking faces to give them a more authentic appearance; the web site Target.com offers these, among others.
Antique style reproduction wall clocks can be bought on eBay.com auctions, various shopping web sites, QVC, Linens 'n Things, and Lamps Plus stores, which are mostly in the western U.S. When searching for a clock of this type online, be sure to separately use the terms "antique style" and "reproduction", as many retailers use one or the other. Although they are to be mounted on a wall, reproduction cuckoo clocks are usually not identified as wall units, so they should be searched for separately. Searching for models of a particular time-period's style can be useful as well, such as "1950s style clock" or "1800s style clock". Google Product Search (google.com/products) is helpful for finding them.
Keeping the above-mentioned factors in mind should help make it possible to locate and select the best reproduction clock to purchase.
