Antiques, Vintage and Treasures: The Sleepy Poet Antique Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina
Dresses and Jewelry, Bureaus and Albums, These Are a Few of My Favorite Things
If you're a collector of books, fine art or jewelry, perhaps you have something specific in mind, but even if you're not looking for anything in particular, you'll probably fall in love at least five times with a piece of furniture, a rug or even a candy dish before you leave. Indeed, parting will be sweet sorrow if you can't take it with you when you go.
The place is aesthetically pleasing, although you may not know what to look at first with so many antiques and decorative pieces vying for your attention. It's best to have at least a couple of hours to browse, although I could while away a whole day there.
Various dealers have space in the mall, which accounts for the wide selection available. For unique one-of-a -kind chairs, check out Shawna Robinson's "Happy Chair" creations. Robinson, a NASCAR driver, breathes new life into old worn-our chairs, using bold colors to produce eye-catching pieces of art. Robinson gives each of her finished chairs a name that fits its personality.
There's the glamorous chair, Marilyn, that's all Hollywood with sequin fabric and sexy, classic lines. Isabel has a glossy, white carved frame that's covered with red and coral animal print, and a back of baby blue and paisley.
For almost two decades, Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage has sold vintage clothing and home decor, and has stocked a treasure trove for retro fashion lovers. From the 1940s to the 1980s, from hippie to boho to rockabilly--you'll find it all at Kitsch-y-Cool .
A recent perusal turned up a 1950s Cocktail Prom Dress in Black Lace for $59, and a 1970s Crocheted Hippie Style Mini Dress that sold for $39. Men's clothing is also available, as are accessories. If you see something you like, better move fast because when it sells it's gone.
If you're looking for a unique gift for the holidays, anniversaries or birthdays, it's just waiting for you to come and pick it up at the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall.
