The body uses pantothenate by converting it into CoA (coenzyme A). You can have normal levels of pantothenate while levels of CoA are too small to do any good if it's not properly converted.
CoA is beneficial to many body functions but is especially vital for the adrenal glands. The adrenal glands produce the hormones you need to help you cope with stress and give you physical energy. Researchers discovered, in the 1930's, that pantothenate deficiency adversely affected the adrenal glands and caused damage to them.
Stress causes a drop in your white blood cells too. White blood cells are the ones that help your body fight off infection.
Vitamin C is also "burned up" when the body is under a lot of stress; whether physical or mental, indicating that low pantothenate could result in lower levels of Vitamin C during periods of stress when your body needs both of these nutrients the most.
Pantothenate can also help protect against the stress the body endures during radiation therapy and studies suggest that pantothenate can help you live longer too, maybe by a good ten years.
Where can you get natural pantothenate? In raw foods of course, where you get most of your nutritional value. But in this day and age of buying canned, frozen and overly processed foods, we really aren't getting much bang for our buck since all of those processes will kill most of the nutritional value.
In today's society, which is laden with stress, it's vitally important to keep our body as healthy as possible so it can fight off the damaging effects of the outer stress we must endure. It's also impossible to get the nutrition we need from our food. We would need to consume raw foods almost 24/7 to get the nutritional value our bodies demand. For this reason, many people turn to supplements because our lifestyle just doesn't allow for eating fresh, raw vegetables throughout the day.
Incorporating some kind of physical fitness into your life can help you deal with the emotional stress and helps your body deal with it as well. Getting plenty of nutrition will also help your body repair itself and deal with the physical stress.
Strength training and yoga are good ways to clear your mind and help you change your focus from your problems to something positive in your life. We can't avoid all stress but we can equip our body and mind to deal with it in a healthy way.
