Antonio Margarito's Bizarre Sponsor Deal Starting to Worry Manny Pacquiao?
Antonio Margarito's Bizarre Sponsor Deal Putting a Scare into Manny Pacquiao?
Pacquiao may not be as sure of a win as fans are led to believe. He recently brought in some big names to help him train for this fight, according to the website Cappers Mall. This decision to bring in the big guns came on the wings of the new sponsorship deal that Margarito struck with Affliction, the punk rock clothing people.
It could just be that Margarito's bizarre sponsorship deal has Pacquiao questioning that maybe Margarito knows something the odds makers don't when it comes to the possibilities of Margarito winning the fight.
The non-traditional sponsorship deal that Margarito has made with Affliction, may just be serving another purpose for Margarito. It could be working psychologically on Pacquiao and his camp.
Margarito has bet it all on winning this fight, and he did this through securing his sponsor, according to the LA Times. Margarito not being prime pickings for a sponsorship, due to the discovery of plaster in his gloves right before his fight with Sugar Shane Mosley at the Staples Center in 2009, arranged a non-traditional sponsorship for himself.
Affliction had been Margarito's sponsor, but dropped him after the plaster incident "due to the economy being so bad," according to the LA Times.
Margarito went to the punk rock clothing manufactures and offered them a deal that apparently they could not refuse. If Margarito wins the fight, he will get a five-figure payday, but if he loses, he gets nothing.
This self-assuring deal that Margarito struck up with the people from Affliction may just have Pacquiao's camp a little worried, so this may be why "they decided to bring British WBA welterweight world champion Amir Khan to the Philippines for about three weeks of sparring." According to Cappers Mall, these training sessions will start as soon as later this week.
This training strategy just proves that Pacquiao's camp is not sparing any expense when it comes to training for this match. Pacquiao has two more big names he will be sparring with besides Khan to get ready for his match with Margarito.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Vanes Martirosyan are two other well-known boxers whom Pacquiao will be sparring with, getting ready for the day he will join Margarito in the ring. With the odds being on Pacquiao's side and Pacquiao's own self-assured attitude that he has shared in the various interviews so far, is this overkill?
Margarito, who is basically betting on himself to win with the sponsorship deal he struck with Affliction, must be fairly positive that he has a good chance at the junior middleweight title, which will go to the winner of this fight.
Although Pacquiao is paying the big bucks for the big-name sparring partners, Margarito's cost will be much greater if he loses this fight.
It sounds as if just maybe the Pacquiao camp is pondering this fact and is putting Pacquiao through every training exercise known in the boxing world to get Pacquiao ready for the fight, leaving no stone unturned for a possible loss.
The deal Margarito made with Affliction has taken on a life of its own when it comes to the boxing world. Not only has it given the company more publicity than a traditional sponsor would gather for a boxing match, it may have worked to "psych out" Margarito's opponent.
The Affliction sponsorship deal may just be changing the part that a sponsor plays in the world of boxing.

Post a Commentamir khan is only a junior welterweight, how is sparring with someone smaller supposed to prepare pac for a 5'11 165lb oppoenent? and how exactly is margarito's "deal" with affliction (where he gets a payday if he wins, nothing if he loses) a mind game? this article makes no damn sense, Roz
Does the author know anything about boxing? Khan is coming in b/c he is another Freddie Roach ward and has an upcoming bout with Maidana in Dec. JCCJr. and Vanes are no longer flying to the Philippines for sparring.
Please leave the boxing stories to those familiar with the sport.
You can bet on it, Margarito is going to get k....d .
Another wannabe making assumption and blogging into the web to get attention. You will get more attention much more than this article if you will post yourself in a two piece bikini.
if that is what you believe in then why dont you put all your money on margarito too. LOL!
MArgarito has nothing to lose, this is not a bet because he has nothing to lose. He is just wearing an Affliction shirt and should he win, gets a 5 digit contract. WTH I will fight Klitchko and wear an affliction shirt for a possible 5 digit return. The possibility of me winning is near impossible but i got a shot. Margarito has a puncher's chance and the outcome is in favor of Manny but we dont really know what is going to happen until fight time. In short, MArgarito has another shot at glory and will be earning millions and is putting all the marbles in because if he wins it will be sky is the limit.
Psychological coward is only Floyd Maynever. Psychologically scared of fighting Pacquiao of thinking that he(Pacquiao) is using ped.Pacquiao will be more happy if Margarito will fight aggressively that can please the paying public. Pacquiao is ready whatever Margarito will bring inside the ring. Nothing to worry about.
Before hand Khan was already scheduled as one of Pacquiao sparring partner. That bizzare sponsorship deal by Margarito will not psychologically affect Pacquiao but will give more motivation for him to train more harder.
