Anxiety - What It's Really All About

Nick G.
Anxiety by definition is psychological state of mind in which can be exhibited by a number of physical and emotional symptoms. The physical symptoms of anxiety are often portrayed and confused with symptoms of nervousness, while this observation is not necessarily incorrect, there is still a difference between having an anxiety disorder and just being nervous. The biggest difference that can be explained in the most simple way is that Anxiety is backed by an actual psychological fear or apprehension of something which can cause stress or anxieties. In a nutshell, Anxiety digs way deeper than just being nervous in front of a group of people, or speaking in the public. Those types of scenarios make a large part of the human population experience a type of initial nervousness or un-comfort if you will. With that said, Anxiety is something that u cant simply get rid of. Although it may have its ups and downs depending on the person who is experiencing these emotional and physical symptoms, Anxiety will always affect people in a negative way and it is not at all an enjoyable thing to have to go through on a day to day basis.

As I stated before, Anxiety has physical and emotional effects on a person. The physical symptoms of anxiety are heart palpitations ( racing heart ), chest pain, shakiness, sweating, higher blood pressure, shortness of breathe, and that's just naming a few. The emotional pain that anxiety can cause is very devastation depending on the severity of the situation. This is why anxiety is often linked with a similar mental disorder known as depression. It's a fact that anxiety and depression go hand in hand with each other, and that they both display similar symptoms both physically and emotionally. Emotionally, Anxiety can cause a person to become fearful of things that the general population seems ordinary. Duties such as driving your car to get gas, Going to the grocery store, Or even going to work, become a dreadful task that one must endure.

In my opinion, Anxiety is a "Psych-Out" type of mental disorder. What I mean by "Psych-out" is that when you always think the worst will happen, Chances are that you will make yourself feel complete and utter dread as long has u keep having these thought processes in a consistent pattern. Some people ask if there is a cure for anxiety, Ultimately the answer to that question lies on the individual. Anxiety is something that can be fought and eventually conquered when you teach yourself to think in different and more positive ways. The answer is not to look at life with a fearful outlook on everything, but to look at life with a purpose for yourself and what you really want to achieve and don't let anyone come in your path that is going to affect you in a negative way.

Now, On the question of prescription drugs benefiting a person who has an anxiety disorder. Sure, Prescription drugs such as Klonopin (Clonazepam), Ativan (Lorazepam), Xanax (Alprazolam), and many other drugs from the Benzodiazepine family will aid in fighting the symptoms of anxiety, but these are primarly only beneficiary over the physical symptoms that anxiety produces. I think that if these drugs can be used in a carefully dosed manner to help calm patients or "take the edge off", This can help lead to the recovery process in a persons personally battle against anxiety.
