Any Media is Good Media

A View on How Even Bad Publicity Can Be Good for an Author

Did you wake up to your AC, youtube, or any other account and find criticism over what you had creatively taken a view on? That may turn out to help as opposed to harm you!

A lot of us view criticism instinctively as a bad thing. We look at it as a negative view that someone else has about us, or something that we have created. but is it always a bad thing? Let's say you write a quick article on Associated Content, you're putting it up as Display only and aren't expecting much off of it; you simply thought it was interesting to write about and had a little extra time.

What if you came back the next few days and found that your article had generated over 2,000 hits in a matter of a few days? Now let's say that you have a happily surprised reaction by this, and instantly notice a few new comments.

This sort of thing has been going on with web sites such as Youtube for years. Spamming and/or criticism over someone's creative work has always been met with someone else's opinion or facts over how it could have been better.

Especially with the internet since the dawning of computers, online content, and social networking; we've been able to hide our identities behind a virtual ego and share our opinion whether it is right or wrong. On one hand this can bring a person down that someone has criticized them, but, on the other hand couldn't it be a good thing?

Let's go back to that article that generated 2,000 views in two days. Although a few comments were left criticizing it and fixing issues within the article that took 15 minutes to write, it still generated two thousand views. Two people out of 2,000 have criticized what you have posted, while the other 1,998 either had better things to do, or genuinely encouraged the article.

So those people that took the time to negatively impact you are the minority of the internet, and you have still generated the Performance Pay of 2,000 views.

Now let me know: isn't all media good media? Lindsay Lohan is a drug addicted, washed up alcoholic at 24 years of age yet America can't get enough of her. We feed off of other peoples dismay, and it creates a sense of well being in ourselves to know that even those people that we consider to be a higher status then us, still have the same issues and problems that the rest of the world does.

So that short, 270 word article you wrote? That one that you felt bad about because some of your facts were skewed, or you missed the chance to catch an error before it was instantly submitted and published? The one that you received criticism on because everything wasn't perfect after a quarter of an hour of writing? I wouldn't worry about that article; As a matter of fact, I might take that one and use it as your top contributor post for a few more days. Because, let's face it, any media is good media!

Writing is a window, an escape. It's the one thing that can take something apart, while simultaneously putting it together. It's a passion, an awakening, and something to keep motivation flowing.  View profile

  • People have the courage of a lion to say what they feel they need to over the internet.
  • It doesn't matter what people are saying about you, as long as they are talking about you.
  • We strive to make ourselves feel better by finding faults in others.
Every since we've been able to comprehend separate opinions as human beings, we've always looked for a way to find errors in the creativity that others use as an outlet. A misused term that we refer to as "Constructive Criticism."
