Any of This Sound Familiar?

oonah merriwether

the russians were coming when i was a child
bomb shelters everywhere, taught duck and cover
the worst thing, the nuns said, they'd see us defile
the cross of the lord while warheads were hovering
'
any of this sound familiar?

then those damn koreans, and then vietnam!
those communists soon would just take the world over.
how could we not fight them, send them a bomb?
lest they cross the ocean toward our fields of clover. hey,

any of this sound familiar?

now it's the muslims they're bound to invade
force girls into burkhas, take white women lovers
their power is awesome i guess not charade
those damned third world armies are light years above ours!

any of this sound familar?

'it's not hard to drag along people to war
just claim they're all under attack most chaotic.
if some dare dissent, maybe ask why? what for?
accuse them of treason, call them unpatriotic!'

any of this sound familar?

(the previous stanza is drawn from a quote
from a powerful man of a not long gone era
he knew how to swing it, got people to vote
on invading the world...his name hermann goering)

sorry i don't have an omlaut
