There will probably be some sort of application fee or processing fee. The fee can vary from rental complex to complex. You will probably need to pay rent in advance, perhaps one or two months and everyone's policy seems to be different in this area. If you catch a special you may be able to move in and not be required to pay the first month's rent.
Prior to your application you will probably be shown around the premises by a leasing agent. One of the things that make an apartment complex more appealing is a gated community. This helps to ensure that you live a community which is safe and secure. During tough economic times robberies seem to escalate. If you had to move out of your home then a place where the rent is affordable is of prime importance.
Your credit can stop you from renting an apartment so you probably want a place that understands your circumstances and is willing to work with you. Some apartment complexes seem to know that people can become victims of a recession and it's not there fault that they may have fallen past due for that reason.
A team of courteous professionals is probably of high importance. No one wants to deal with representatives who seem disinterested and don't really have your best interest at heart.
If your apartment complex has other amenities such as controlled access building, laundry on each floor, swimming pool with sun deck, gated community, state of the art fitness center, newly renovated apartment homes, and trash disposal on each floor then you are well on your way to moving into the ideal complex.
Some apartment units have designated places for moving in. Many have freight elevators which make moving much more convenient especially if you have large bulky items to bring in. It always pays to check out a few places before you decide on one. This will ensure that you receive as many accommodations as possible which ultimately make your living experience enjoyable.
