My first residency took place at a small property intersecting Tropicana and Mountain Vista. Though moderately priced and decently accommodating, this location borders Boulder Hwy. I, myself, never experienced what many customer reviews apparently have; however, perceptions can foresee why the surrounding area is considered occasionally threatening. This location is due east of the strip, somewhat central Las Vegas. Most properties, in my opinion and according to residency feedback, in central Las Vegas just east and west of the strip can be compared to the latter. The exception is the Summerlin and Rhodes Ranch locations, in the deep west.
Northeast Las Vegas reportedly reserves the highest crime statistics. As housing is cheaper, it attracts lower classes of society. Once again, I too, have yet to experience any threats or hostile activity among this area; however, I reflect the appearance of a strapping young man who fails to show any possession of monetary gain. I do recommend those interested in this area though to reserve apartments NOT on the first floor. As many may caution and advise not to seek housing in this area, I understand that many regret to claim similar financial accommodations as most. I believe that NW Las Vegas lacks apartments more than any other area, especially the farther west you travel. However, if you are committed to buying, then you can find a great deal in this region.
I typically prefer to remain in southern Las Vegas, and acknowledge Russell as the boundary between "less than average" and "average;" or "average" and "better than average" depending on your placement among the tracks. Apartments can be found relatively cheap even in the Henderson area, which is considerably nice. As my experiences are limited, the only feedback of crime in these locations is committed by teenagers....and a bit of car theft. I have yet to catch wind of any occurrences that may be considered more threatening though.
To conclude, I must also mention that residency on or around the strip is also hectic. For those wishing to make a pilgrimage to Las Vegas with hopes of living on top of the entertainment industries of the strip, consider again.
