Apologize is a song coming off of OneRepublic's debut album, Dreaming Out Loud. This song was written by the lead singer Ryan Tedder. This song was one of the most played songs of 2007, as it broke a record for most plays in one week with over ten thousand. This record would be broken by Bleeding Love, which was also written by Tedder. This song was an worldwide smash, reaching the top of the chart in sixteen different countries. It was on top of the U.S. Billboard Pop 100 for eight weeks. This song was regarded as number fifty on the Billboard's Hot 100 All-Time Songs in the past fifty years. It stayed in the top ten of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for twenty-five weeks straight, the longest stay since Smooth by Santana in 1999. This is the most legally downloaded song in U.S. history with over 4.3 million downloads. It has sold over ten million digital copies worldwide.

On September 19, 2007, the music video for this song was released. It was directed by Robert Hales. This video shows the band performing and includes portions of a New Year's Eve party. Another version shows Timbaland remixing the song while the camera circles around the band as they perform. One of the versions of Apologize was the forth most watched video on YouTube in 2008, with over fifty-two million views. A fan made music video has over twenty-three million views. It is projected that all music videos of this song on YouTube have over 150 million views as of March 2009.

As mentioned above, this song did amazingly well on the charts. Even though it was on second on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, it reached the top of Pop 100, Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks and Adult Contemporary Tracks. It also placed as high as sixtieth on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. It topped sixteen different charts around the world, including the Australian Singles Chart, Austrian Singles Chart, Canadian Hot 100, Dutch Top 40, German Singles Chart, Italian Singles Chart, New Zealand Singles Chart, Portuguese Singles Chart, Spanish Singles Chart, Swedish Singles Chart, Swiss Singles Chart, Turkey Top 20 Chart, Irish Singles Chart, Israeli Singles Chart, Belgian Ultratop 50 Singles, Danish Singles Chart, Norwegian Singles Chart, and the Romanian Top 100. Other chart performances include placing as high as third on the United Kingdom Singles Chart, second on the Russian Singles Chart, and forth on the Finnish Singles Chart.
