Apology

Tamara Jern
I'm sorry I wasn't there
for you when you woke up
and I was gone,
immersed in a pixelated world
that beckoned to me from the front room.

I didn't mean to leave you
reaching for pillows that smell of me
on my side of the bed
closest to the wall,
so I don't fall off.

(Remember when I fell on my head
and scared you?
I'm sorry for that too.)

I'm sorry we sleep on different schedules
and I'm awake when you're asleep.
Please forgive me.
I want to cuddle,
even for a little while.
