Apology from Westboro Baptist Church - "We're Sorry"

Amy B.
Is it really true? Could the members of the Westboro Baptist Church actually be sorry for their disruptive, non-Christian behavior? Here is Westboro's official apology...

Not! Unfortunately, not only is Westboro completely and utterly NOT sorry for their harassment of funeral attendees and mourning families, but they plan to continue their rampage.

When asked point-blank whether or not anything could stop the Westboro Church from using their hateful words, Shirley Phelps-Roper, who is a regular media representative for the church, responded "You need to listen to this answer carefully. Take notes, okay? NO ONE, no SOURCE, no power can shut these words that are, as the scripture says, ROARING out of Mount Zion."

Unfortunately for the Westboro Church, Mount Zion is not located in Topeka, Kansas.

In this same interview, Shirley Phelps-Roper makes additional strange, non-Biblical statements, such as...

"I'm talking to a little guy who's a Jew. You know, that when the prophets go, the prophet go time is doomed America blow time."

"Hey, potato potahtoh. You're all a bunch of criminals and thugs and you're disobedient to the extreme and you don't obey God and you're all facing your imminent destruction."

"What, the military guy?" (discussing an activist that is credited for taking down offensive Westboro websites). "What, you're saying the military people are thugs and criminals too? Gasp! (slaps herself in the cheeks) Say it ain't so! I thought they were heroes. Hello! You've decided you're the one, you're a law unto yourselves. You're some thugs and some criminals, some lawless bandits? Yes."

"If I could just find this guy named Jester, I'd just give him a big hug, and maybe even a little kiss on top of his head. That is, if I get to him before God kicks his ass, I'm just saying. Don't you guys understand? Teachers of rebellion get their asses kicked."

Really, Shirley?

When asked if it is true that Westboro believes that the Internet was invented only for Westboro's message to "get across", Shirley flippantly responds, "Of course!"

These statements in and of themselves seem innocent enough, but it is the way and manner in which they are spoken that seem to incite the most dissension. Please feel free to view the mentioned interview, cited at the bottom of this article.

It is important to note that the Westboro congregation is not recognized by any Baptist affiliation. The message that is being spread by the Westboro Baptist Church may be somewhat Biblical, but it is a much twisted version.

Interestingly enough, the congregation's message is very similar to another group of individuals, who have gone underground over the last few years, under the leadership of one Darwin Fish. The Darwin group has moved into rural NE Oklahoma near the tiny community of Teresita. Darwin Fish and his followers still spread their message that God hates various individuals or actions in strongly worded ways, just as the followers of Westboro Baptist Church believes. However, rather than picketing stadiums or harassing people to death, they now talk to individuals in a calm, respectful manner. The Darwin group has long hung up their picket signs and silenced their loud voices, discovering that people are more willing to listen and discuss these topics in calm and peaceful ways.

Perhaps the Westboro Baptist Church should give Mr. Darwin Fish a phone call for some advice. Better yet, the next time they come to Oklahoma, maybe they should simply drive over to the town and ask any local where to find his followers. I am sure that the meeting would be quite beneficial to Shirley Phelps-Roper and everyone else.

I really hope you didn't intend that toward 'me', did you, purple lady? Surely you meant that toward Mrs. Phelps-Roper?

Get a life, crazy bitch! I think we should use these fringe nuts for target practice, since they see nothing wrong with harassing mourners at funerals!

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Westboro's favor. They're protected by Freedom of Speech. True WBC is evil, by law they have the right to protest. We legally can't stop them. They're 1,000 feet away from Funerals. Let them protest.
