Apple Announces New iPhone 3.0 Operating System

New 3.0 iPhone Has Some Impressive Abilities We Have Been Waiting for, Including Stereo Bluetooth

Highlights from Apple's debut of its new iPhone 3.0 OS (operating system):

Apple announced over 13.7 million iPhones have already been sold. This figure has well surpassed the original goal of selling 10 million iPhones. As a die hard iPhone junkie, this figure does not surprise me.

The new iPhone 3.0 system changes focus on app development. Since the start of the app store, Gameloft has sold over 2 million paid apps. Apple claims that app-developing is fairly easy. That may be true. Not long ago, a 9-year-old, Lim Ding Wen, developed the "Doodle Kids" app. Apple boasts that 96 percent of applications submitted to Apple get approved.

Scott Forstall discussed the new iPhone 3.0 OS announcing that Apple will release 1,000 more APIs to developers. App developers get to keep 70 percent of that revenue, and it's paid monthly. The new iPhone 3.0 OS will allow accessory developers to build custom apps that can communicate directly talk directly to that hardware. This news is great for developers, but what's in it for me, the average iPhone consumer? More impressive apps will result, I am sure.

Finally some news that I can actually use. iPhone 3.0 now has a standard system for finding other devices in the same area; that means no WiFi network needed. Another great feature for iPhone users: Google Maps will be able to be used in apps. This will enable turn-by-turn navigation. That is awesome news.

iPhone 3.0 has push ability

Push notification will finally be available in the new iPhone 3.0 OS. Push was not available earlier since it drained battery life dramatically. To prove how great the new 3.0 OS is, Meebo CEO Seth Sternberg demonstrates iPhone 3.0 push technology in a Meebo IM application. Meebo is used to blend Myspace, AIM, Yahoo and MSN IM chats into one. This makes it convenient if you are a IM lover. I am not a IM fan, but this is certainly a great improvement.

Some exciting apps were announced and shown: EA debuted a very cool looking Sim3 game for the new iPhone; ESPN has some great new sports apps; and Johnson & Johnson debuted new Lifescan application. This app works as a diabetes monitor, a great thing for anyone with the disease.

iPhone user can finally copy and paste

The new iPhone 3.0 will finally have a copy and paste feature. I have been waiting for the ability to use copy and paste since I first bought my iPhone.

Voice memos are now possible

The iPhone 3.0 OS allows you to record voice memos.

iPhone 3.0 has new search features to make your life easier.

New search feature will allow you to search your email, calendars and notes. I love the idea I can type in a keyword and find the exact email I am searching for.

The best news about the new iPhone 3.0 OS

The best news that came out about Apple's new iPhone 3.0 for me is stereo Bluetooth ability! We can finally listen to music via Blutooth. This one the one thing I have hated about my iPhone. When I exercise I have to be connected with wires. Another great new addition: MMS messages can finally be used with the iPhone.

When is the new iPhone 3.0 available?

The new iPhone 3.0 OS will be available this summer for free to all iPhone owners. Some feature such as MMS do not work on the first generation iPhones. The update will cost $9.95 for iTouch users.

The new iPhone 3.0 debut was painful for most Apple lovers to watch happen. All I wanted to know I only found out at the end of the over-hour meeting. Before hearing the big news, I was wondering if I would be disappointed. I was not disappointed in any of the news. I am thrilled.

Great work. I just wish that they wouldn't make iPod Touch users pay for the new OS. Even when it comes out in the Summer.

The fact that the iPhone has not has MMS has driven me crazy. I hate getting the messages that I have to check with some ridiculous code online. Most of time I don't even bother to check the MMS for this reason.

I'm really looking forward to cut/copy/paste! That's one thing I really miss from my BlackBerry. I'm also excited about MMS and the new bluetooth options.

Yes! Now I feel good about not jumping onto the original iPhone craze bandwagon. But I have a feeling I'll put getting this off too.
