Apple Crisp Recipe for the Holidays

Dale Miller
The holiday season is quickly approaching and people are trying to find things to make for their families or friends. The perfect recipe for a tasty apple crisp only takes about 20 minutes to prepare. Cook time equals only 30 stomach growling minutes until you enjoy the tasty treat. Apple crisp is one of the lower calorie desserts. It is combined with apples, brown sugar, flour, quick oats, butter, cinnamon and vanilla ice cream.

There are a million different ways you can make different kinds of desserts. It all goes by if you like the main ingredients that you can taste the most. Some people like more apples. Some like a combination of the apples and the cinnamon. I personally enjoy the vanilla ice cream, quick oat and cinnamon combination. Being an apple lover doesn't seem to hurt either.

Go ahead and try this recipe:

4 medium sized apples, sliced in less than 1 inch pieces
3/4 cup of brown sugar packed well
1/2 cup of all purpose flour
1/2 cup of quick oats
1/3 cup of soft butter
3/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream

First, you will need to heat the oven to 375. Remove the skins from the four medium apples with a peeler. Slice the apples into small pieces around a half inch but, not more than an inch long. Then grease the bottom of an 8 inch square pan. Spread the sliced apples in the pan. In a medium bowl, stir the remaining ingredients exceptpt ice cream until well mixed. Sprinkle over the sliced apples so they are completely covered. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Check apples with a fork. If they are soft enough to be pierced with the fork, then it is done. Let the apple crisp cool for 10 minutes. Then you can cut and serve pieces with a scoop of vanilla ice cream as the topping. Add sprinkles if you like them.

If you love blueberries a little more, then you can trade the apples for four cups of blueberries. They can be fresh or frozen. If you prefer cherries, you can use four cups of them.
