Apple Holler is a country style restaurant/store in Racine, Wisconsin that offers a family friendly atmosphere and activities for kids and adults. The restaurant is located off of I-94, between Milwaukee and Chicago.
The country farm style restaurant offers home style cooking in a rustic atmosphere. In addition to the restaurant are a country store, bakery and deli. Apple Holler also presents activities for kids and adults year-around, including festivals, plays and musical events. They offer seasonal attractions, including hayrides in the fall, sleigh rides for the Christmas holidays, apple picking in the orchard and more.
There are farm attractions in front of the restaurant, including a pen with goats. During their special and events, Apple Holler adds other attractions, such as pony rides and petting zoos, to the farmyard. On one of my visits to the restaurant, there were busloads of children there to enjoy the farm attractions. The hostess said that schools and other organizations often have field trips there during the week.
Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were greeted by a hostess, who greeted us with a smile, led us to a table and handed up large menus. There was a main room and a side room, in what used to be a front porch. The tables and chairs were heavy brown wood.
Apple Holler had a comfortable atmosphere, with friendly servers. The menu offered a variety of sandwiches, entrees and desserts. Some of the home-style food offered included: Country fried chicken, roasted turkey breast, BBQ brisket, roast beef, pork roast, herb baked chicken and BBQ pulled pork. The menu items were moderately priced, with sandwiches under $10 and entrees in the $10 to $15 range.
We happened to be there during their buffet, a bountiful offering of meats and side dishes, so we decided to try the buffet. The buffet was set up on the side of the room with short lines on each side. There was a tempting assortment of dishes that one could easily fill one up to overfull.
Some of my favorite items on the buffet were the roast turkey with dressing, herbed chicken, sweet potato casserole and the corn bread. The food was home-made and tasted very good
The buffet is offered for special occasions, such as Thanksgiving and Easter. They offer a breakfast buffet on Saturdays and Sundays that offers breakfast items for $11.95.
We enjoyed our visit to Apple Holler and have returned when in the area. I would recommend this restaurant for family groups, people who enjoy country style cooking and people looking for something unique in the area.
Apple Holler is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week. The restaurant is located at 5006 S. Sylvania(Frontage Road) in Sturtevant, which is just west of Racine, Wisconsin.

Hi David - No I have never been to Mathis Gallery. I was actually born in Racine and used to have a lot of family there, but now, not so much.
Ever visit the Mathis Gallery in Racine? If you do, please stop in and tell the owner, Emile Mathis, that I said to tell him "Hello!"
