Apple IPad Goes Past 100,000 Apps Milestone

The App Store hits a new milestone having more than 100,000 apps compatible with iPad. The success story of Apple's touchscreen tablet owes to the phenomenal dedication shown by iPad developers. The original iPad was launched in April 2010 followed by release of an even more powerful iPad 2 in March. It required just 16 months for the iPad to reach six figures and still counting, which does not include all the iPhone apps for the iPad. Then, the iPad App Store came with just 3,000 titles, and went past the 10,000 mark that June.Around this time last year there were 11,000 iPad native apps, compared to 5,000 about a month after the tablet was lauched. In March of this year, while introducing the iPad 2, Apple announced that it was up to 65,000 applications. And just a few weeks ago at WWDC the company said it was slightly above 90,000.

At the Worldwide Developers Conference last month, Apple Senior Vice President of iOS Software Scott Forstall revealed that it took iPhone over two years to cross the 100,000 mark and now has over 425,000 apps in the Apple's App Store. iPad showcased its leadership in tablet PC version through a plethora of applications in its platform. The total number of iPad applications can be found in the App Store by selecting the "Featured" section, and then choosing "Release Date" at the top of the screen. iPad user can find an array of apps dedicated to the touchscreen tablet including movies, games, utilities, entertainment and lots more. Apps Store has more than 10 billion application downloads in just two and a half years.

iPad dominates the tablet PC market accounting for almost 90% of all tablet PC shipments put together and Android tablets are expected to soon shore-up its market share.
