Apple iPad More Magical Than the Apple iPhone

Rich Jones
When Apple advertised the iPad device as being like magic, I was a bit skeptical. I figure that they just wanted to generate interest in the iPad, and so they decided to compare it to magic in order to generate interest. I then considered their track record with the iPhone and iPod and decided that I would order an iPad. I placed my order during the first day pre orders were being taken, and I opted for the in-store pickup. The Apple representative told me that each store received 30 iPads in my area, and my order was number 23. I was lucky to get one, and I was anxious to compare it to the iPhone because I love that phone so much and wanted to see how the iPad would compare.

After using the iPad for a few days I have been amazed. The iPad feels and looks like a giant version of the iPhone and weighs just as much. The iPad only weighs 1.5 pounds in total, and it in very light and slim. The iPhone is hard to grab and so is the iPad because the surface is slick, and so it slips out of my hand about once every time I use it. It is very light, but it feels very fragile, and I think it could be broken easily. Another problem is that the screen collects a ton of fingerprints, and I can't get the oil off the screen even after cleaning the iPad. I wish it came with a way to remove the fingerprints from the screen. The screen is very responsive, and navigation is very fast. Flicking through the menu is quicker on the iPad than the iPhone, and this makes it easier to use. The iPad comes pre installed with iWork, and this was a great surprise to me. The software looks amazing, and it was very easy to create a presentation within 15 minutes from material I loaded onto the iPad. I also loved the orientation lock that prevents the iPad from switching the view when you are working on something.

I was disappointed that there was no way to use iChat with a camera and that you can only run one task at a time on the iPad. I purchased the $500 model that has 16GB of memory, and I think this was well worth the money. The keyboard is very easy to type on for emails and short messages because it is very large unlike the iPhone. I believe Apple was right; the iPad is more magical than the iPhone and well worth the money.
