Apple IPhone Release Date Revealed

Ankur Amin
There is no question that Apple's iPod has had enormous success in the MP3 market. And an argument could be made that the Mac is a better computer than any other competitor out there. So it is no surprise that many Apple fans wondered why the company had not endeavored into the other major technological device area; cell phones. For years Apple watched as other phone companies took the best aspects of their products, i.e. the sleek exterior, the increasingly compact size and the ability to hold music and other media, and make millions.

Not anymore.

First officially announced by Steve Jobs on January 9th, 2007, the Apple iPhone finally has a release date. On June 11th, 2007, Jobs and Apple will finally get their chance to justify the immense time and money they have put into their mobile device.

Of course it wouldn't be an Apple product if there weren't new and innovative features to it. Here are some of the best additions to the iPhone:

A Touch Screen - Another rampant rumor about Apple is that they would be releasing an iPod with a touch screen. This may or may not be true, but the Apple iPhone will have this much-anticipated feature. There is nothing especially advantageous to having a touch screen, but it is hard to deny that the feature makes the iPhone cooler than the competition. Remember, Apple won the MP3 market by simply being cooler than their competitors.

The touch screen is said to have several interfaces and to be highly responsive. If it is done right, look for other mobile companies to scramble to try to match it in their products.

MP3 Player - Other phone companies have made phones capable of playing music. Heck there are even phones out there that have the same or more memory capacity as the iPhone. But can anyone really make MP3 players like Apple?

The iPhone works just like an iPod. That means album artwork for all of your music. That means video files that can be watched landscape style. Even the scrolling features and connectivity to iTunes will be kept. What other phone out there can be as effective as a MP3 player?

Reasonable Price - At first glance, the iPhone may seem overpriced at $499 and $599 for the four and eight gigabyte versions respectively. But take into effect that the phone acts as an iPod, regularly priced around $249 for the video, a phone, a camera and an internet browser, the price is not that bad. There is even talk that the Mac operating system will work on the iPhone.

All in all, it's no fluke that the iPhone required over two-hundred patents to be filed by Apple. This phone will be the most innovative and sleek mobile device on the market. It may end up revolutionizing the phone market as much as the iPod did for the MP3 market. June 11th may seem like any other day, but if Apple has their way it will be anything but for the way people see mobile devices.

Apple sells great products for more. They are making money and adding market share. Dell used to make quality and was a great company, now they sell junk and support it from India. Apple stock up up and up. Dell is no longer a star.

You are all dum asses who think this phone is not worth $500 and think it wont sell - The i pod mini 8gb without 1/1000 the features of the Iphone sold for 300-ish. If you have actually read what this phone can do $500 is cheep and I would easily pay $1200 for it It blows away any phone on the market at this time. Except some PDA phones and the good PDA-phone are about $1000 to $1400 and it can do most of the same things and then some more. JUST to recap this is a phone for and GADGET happy person = ME lol have fun with this one when it comes out :)

I think it has not sinked in how big this device can be. Plus the effects that it will have on cingular, I'll be switching procider and buying the 8 GB version

  • Dave5/1/2007

Total cost for this phone is way too much...$499.99 + (CA 8.75%) = $543.74 + ($36.00 Activation) = $579.74. AND also a two year contract with cingular...I would definately pay $349.99-399.99 with two year contract but $499.99 seems way over priced...
