On June 7 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) Apple announced its follow-up to the wildly popular iPhone 3G: the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 3GS, which is expected to be easily just as popular as the iPhone 3G was, will release much sooner than expected.

The new iPhone 3GS looks and feels very similar to the iPhone 3G, and well it should. Apple has not made dramatic changes to their operating system. In fact, much about the new iPhone 3GS will be the same as its predecessor.

So what is different about the iPhone 3GS?
The new iPhone 3GS tells you it's biggest improvement over the previous installment in its name: the new iPhone 3GS, where the "S" stands for "Speed." The new iPhone 3GS is a much faster, much more reliable machine than it's father was. Dramatically decreased load times, faster-running games, and speedier 3G service are all things that users can look forward to with the advent of the new iPhone 3GS.

The new iPhone 3GS also boasts a host of new capabilities such as an improved 3 megapixel camera, voice-over technology, built in compass, and voice control. For more information on the capabilities of the new iPhone 3GS, you can read New IPhone 3GS Improves Over the iPhone 3G.

The new iPhone 3GS will also release in two versions. Buyers can expect the old standard 16GB iPhone 3GS. Added to the lineup will be the greatly anticipated 32GB version, allowing those who have been holding out for a bigger option to finally get their wish with the new iPhone 3GS.

What does this mean for the iPhone 3G?
As of June 7 the iPhone 3G will have a dramatically decreased price tag to make way for the new iPhone 3GS. The earlier phones will drop to a measly $99 dollars, allowing many more users to take advantage of the world's wunderphone. The new iPhone 3GS will release with a $199 price tag for the 16GB version, and $299 for the 32GB (cell phone plan may be necessary).

So when can I get my hands on the new iPhone 3GS?
Buyers in the United States can expect to grab the new iPhone 3GS as early as June 19, and the new iPhone 3GS will be available in over 80 countries by August '09. Don't expect to be able to just walk into the store and pick up your new iPhone 3GS without a wait, however, as the release of the new iPhone 3GS is likely to spark just as much enthusiasm as its previous iterations.
