Technology
Bluetooth technology is used in the Apple Wireless Keyboards for establishing the wireless connection between the keyboard and the computer. Since all the Apple computers and most of the others support Bluetooth, the Apple Wireless Keyboard can be used with ease. Upgrading to Bluetooth for PCs is also inexpensive. Running the simple setup wizard in an Apple computer will search for the hardware and identifies the wireless keyboard and then pairs it with the PC.
Using the Apple Wireless Keyboard
The function keys in the keyboard serve dual purpose. The Apple Wireless Keyboard has function keys which are linked to the OS X system features. The keys enable adjusting the brightness, controlling iTunes, bringing up the dashboard etc.
The feel of the keys is not that fine. It can't be labeled as the worst, but typing for a long time tires a person. There is space between each key on the keyboard. This helps with accuracy. One may try to adjust him- or herself for typing on Apple Wireless Keyboard, but may not really love typing on it.
The wireless connectivity of the keyboard is also not that good. The connectivity between the computer and the keyboard often fails, especially when the PC switches to sleep mode. The connectivity restarts once the power key on the keyboard is pressed. It is just irritating to find the connection lost every time.
The Apple Wireless Keyboard does not have a numeric keypad. One has to activate the NumLock to type the numbers. This is sometimes inconvenient for those adjusted to using desktop keyboards. Laptop users may not find this feature too annoying, since they are used to it.
Unlike other keyboards of its type, the Apple Wireless Keyboard uses 3 AA batteries instead of 4. One best thing about this Keyboard is the battery life. The life of battery is good enough. It only needs to be replaced every two months. The Mac OS X operating system gives a warning in advance when the batteries are going low. This helps to charge them on time.
The Apple Wireless Keyboard is compact and slim enough, so that it fits in every keyboard bag. This makes it quite suitable while traveling. There is no other keyboard which is so easy to carry along. Cleaning the Apple Wireless Keyboard is also a hassle-free job. The shape of the keyboard, and the spacing of the keys are such that they can be easily cleaned. The keys are flat, hence one can just lightly rub off to remove the dirt.
Conclusion
The Apple Wireless Keyboard has some very good features, as well as lacks in some important ones. There is no reason why one may choose to go for Apple Wireless Keyboard, leaving its other competitors. All these aspects make the keyboard less desirable, when compared to many of its other counterparts.
