Users are already wondering what the next big thing will be for Apple. The company is working on incorporating 3D technology for use with their IPOD and MAC computers sometime in the near future. This breaking news has leaked out because someone recently discovered that the company applied for a patent regarding the technology sometime in 2008. There has been a few updates to the patent over the past couple of weeks and shows the company might be about to make a major move.

The company is exploring the possibility of bringing 3D to their users through video glasses. These glasses would be head-mountable and adjustable for each unique user. Your audio and video would be streamed to the glasses from either your IPOD or computer. This allows you to have the 3D technology be portable, similar to what Nintendo is doing with their upcoming new DSI, minus the bulky 3D glasses though.

Perhaps the coolest aspect of these glasses is that they would receive the content through a wireless connection. No bulky cords will get in your way while using this cool gadget. Another cool thing is that the glasses will support what is known as stereoscopic imaging. This basically means the glasses will be able to show 3D content and regular content as well. The glasses are able to do this because they are equipped with lenses that are supported by mirrors, optics, lasers, and diffusers.

The patent shows that Apple wants to bring portable 3D technology to their consumers. Consumers are going crazy over 3D technology right now and manufacturers are delivering it to them. You can find 3D technology at the movies and soon you will be able to find it at home. However, the market for portable 3D technology is very small currently. This is why Nintendo is rushing to release a portable gaming device that gives you this ability. Apple wants to do the same as Nintendo and capture a piece of the market before it is too late.

Manufacturers have attempted to offer 3D glasses in the past. What would make this technology more unique is that it is wireless, offers the ability to change from traditional viewing to 3D, and will be able to be used with the popular IPOD music/video player. Consumers will flock to such a product and it will be interesting to see when the company ends up releasing the technology to the mass market. For now you can remain excited because you learned about this technology before most even knew the company was working on it.
