Applebee's Maple Butter Blondie Food Review

Julie Boehlke
Everyone loves dessert. When most people think of a scrumptious and tasty dessert, they think chocolate. With Applebee's Maple Butter Blondie dessert--chocolate will be the furthest thing from your mind.

The subtle, yet full-flavored aura surrounding this dessert is something that will have you quickly going back for more. It may soon become your favorite treat.

Applebee's Maple Butter Blondie starts off as a blondie brownie created from scratch with ingredients such as brown sugar, maple flavoring and toasted walnuts. The brownie is presented slightly warm with a sugary sweet maple glaze on the side that can be poured over the brownie. There is also a scoop of ice cold maple flavored ice cream served on top. Truly, a treat for anyone who wants to be satisfied with the perfect dessert.

The Maple Butter Blondie is not an indulgence to be regularly taken on if you are trying to maintain a slim silhouette. This brownie packs on the calories at a whopping 763 calories and 52 grams of fat! This blondie is definitely a sweetheart with 58 grams of sugar per serving (the sugar content out does the fat grams in this one.) So if you want a sugar high, this dessert is the way to go!

I recently prepared a replica of this famous dessert at a party I hosted. Guests were disappointed when there was not enough for a second helping! The key to replicating this dish is not to over cook anything and not to leave the cooking area. It only takes seconds for the brownies to brown up (which you do not want) and for the sauce to scorch. If you can't race down to your local Applebee's restaurant fast enough, here is a copycat recipe that is very similar in taste.

For the Brownie you will need the following ingredients-

1 cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped toasted walnuts
1/3 cup unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg slightly beaten
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup nestle white chocolate chips

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
Sift flour and add the baking powder, baking soda and salt. Sift once again. Add chopped nuts. Mix well and set aside.
Melt the butter. Add brown sugar and mix well. Add beaten egg and vanilla extract and blend well. Add flour mixture, a little at a time-- mixing well. Stir in the white chocolate chips and stir until completely blended. Spread in a 9-inch square non-stick pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Do not overcook-- you do not want the brownie consistency to be hard on the edges or dry.

Now, begin to prepare the maple butter sauce!

You will need-

3/4 cup pure authentic maple syrup (not pancake syrup)
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup toasted and salted walnuts, chopped
Combine the syrup and butter, cook over low heat until butter is melted. Do not burn or scorch! Stir in brown sugar until completely dissolved. Add walnuts, if desired.

Pour the maple butter sauce over the warm brownie. Add a scoop or two of maple-flavored ice cream or French vanilla ice cream. Sprinkle with extra walnuts if desired. Serve and enjoy!

This is a great treat to have when you are really craving a warm, but sweet dessert. You can satisfy all of your cravings in one bite with the taste and texture of the brownie, the warm consistency of the maple glaze and the cold feel and flavor of the ice cream. And yes, it is true--blondes do have more fun!

I'll have to try this at home. This is my all time favorite dessert. My wife and I have been know to stop at Applebee's for coffee and blondie after dining at other establishments. They are that good!

I love these too but you describe it so beautifully that I can almost taste it, from the maple glaze to the high calorie count. Thanks for the info on making this at home!
