Apples: An Alternative Medicine for Cleansing and Protecting the Body

Tameko Barnette
Apples are widely known for their nutritional value as a delicious snack and excellent ingredient for cakes, pies, and cookies. We eat applesauce for breakfast or as a side dish for dinner. And there's nothing like apples dipped in caramel sauce. Yummy! However, I have realized the alternative health benefits of eating apples to be very great. And I wanted to share those benefits with you, so you can get the most out of your apples.

Since the beginning of time, apples have been known as the fruit of knowledge. A great fruit that reveals much, if not all, to those who eat them. It is considered a sacred fruit to many people of many religions and spiritual beliefs due to its five-point star in the middle when it is cut in half.

Apples are an important source of Vitamin C and antioxidants. Remember the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Apples are also high in fiber. Because of this high fiber content in apples, they are an enjoyable way to get one's daily fiber requirement. Fiber is essential to the reduction of cholesterol and the healthy state of one's colon.

The fiber in apples helps you have regular bowel movements, thus helping your colon stay healthy. The antioxidants in apples also protect against or reduce the risk of some types of cancer. A great way to receive the benefits of apples are to just eat them 'as is', including the peel, which is loaded with the essentials vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber you need on a daily basis or you can eat applesauce, desserts with apples in them, or apple juice with 100% Vitamin C.

Another way to get the full benefits of apples is to use a juicer, which will allow you to get the peel, the seeds, and the flesh into the juice. Many of the store-bought apple juices have a very high Vitamin C count, yet you may not be getting the full fiber benefits. It depends upon the brand of apple juice you buy to be quite honest. My suggestion would be to get an organic brand of apple juice. Be sure to read the labels on the apple juice bottles to see what you are getting BEFORE you buy it.

No matter how you decide to work apples into your daily eating plan, the benefits are the same for everyone. It's good eating for your good health.
