Apple's New iPod with Touchscreen, Wifi

Although it is not a official, the word from those who know is that in less than 24 hours the evolution of the iPod will be revealed to many nervous, curious and possibly future iPod owners. Apple has announced that they will make an huge announcement in San Fransisco, Wednesday afternoon. Due to a tight lipped CEO we may never find out until Steve Jobs is good and ready to tell us.

It is that secrecy itself which prompts bloggers and others to speculate what the new iPod will offer. Most of the predictions are leaning towards enabling WiFi for the iPod along with touchscreen capability, while others believe there to be a iPhone Nano on the horizon. There is now also talk of the iPod models having flash storage capability and digital radio. Another prediction is the Beatles will be present at the press conference and will be part of the cover flow. This being significant due to the fact that Apple Corps, the Beatles publishing company , has sued the Apple three times since 1978.

The Washington Post confirms the speculation of a touchscreen as well as the existence of Wife capability for a new iPod, through documents it had obtained from an unknown Apple supplier. But if Wifi is added it may have limited access to the Internet perhaps only email and web music broadcasters. The new iPod is expected to resemble the newly introduced iPhone but with a color touchscreen. The amount of data storage as well as the cost is unknown, as of yet.
The iPhone is expected to be upgraded as to having a camera capability. Due to the excitement surrounding the pending announcement sales have gone up for the iPhone as well as Apple's stock. As a result some stores have warned employees of high theft risks.

ABC News notes that "Last year Apple's iPod sales dipped for the first time since 2002." , suggesting that it may be time to for a change.
A change may be coming but will we be ready more importantly where does that leave our iPods ? Time for an upgrade? at what cost?
