Apple's Mac Tablet Announcement Due

J.A. McLynne
Apple should announce the mac tablet by the end of January 2010. The iPhone announcement was made shortly before the 2007 MacWorld. With MacWorld kicking off the second week of February, there are great expectation that Apple will follow a similar path when it announces their next big product, the mac tablet. Expanded news coverage over Apple's latest offering will give media a chance to hype the tablet for a week or two. Once it makes its debut, attendees will be able to view the product at MacWorld.

The mac tablet will likely have some quirky name tied to it. For example, maybe it will be called iPad. Or possibly even iTab. This would keep Apple's product line consistent, iPod, iPhone, iMac.

Apple has always stood apart from standard PCs because the designs for their computer mouse and keyboards. The new pointing device for the new mac tablet will be considered revolutionary. The new mac tablet computer will feature the original pointing device, your finger! There is no mouse, and no stylus. There is no keyboard. The tablet is a flat screen that will be about the size of a book.

There may be an on screen keyboard similar to a keyboard found on an iPhone. The touch screen will allow you to use 'gestures' to manipulate items on the screen. Gesture technology has improves so that you can use multiple fingers on the display. Sliding your finger along the screen in certain directions will send commands to the desktop interface. You will also be able to rotate items on the screen with gestures. Gestures will not only lead to improvements in the desktop experience, but also in the world of 3D gaming.

As 2007 was the "year of the iPhone", upcoming 2010 will likely be the "year of the tablet." Up until just a few years ago, the Internet was tied to desktop PC. With recent expansion of 3G networking across the United States, consumers are demanding smaller and lighter Internet capable devices. Cell phones have shown considerable limitations in terms of the types of applications that they can run. Netbooks, which are smaller forms of laptops, have helped fill the void, but many consumers still consider them a little to large to carry around. They are looking for elegant solutions, and the mac tablet, barring any glitches will more than fill the void.

Barrack Obama has allocated a considerable amount of government bail-out money into improving the wireless network across the United States. Something other than an iPhone or Blackberry is needed to surf the next generation Internet. Apple's iPhone was an improvement in application capability, however it is still considered a phone. Web browsing with a iPhone is pretty hard on the eyes due to the smaller display. A Mac tablet, with an expanded viewing area, that has a more memory and processing power will be popular with Mac fans.

The only question remains is how much consumers will be willing to put down the next greatest gadget to hit the stores in these troubled economic times.
