Apple's New Multitouch iPod Nano

If you could go back 20 years and show this New Multitouch iPod nano to someone you could easily convince them it came from another planet. If there was no such thing as an iPhone, an iPod Touch or the older version of the Nano then everyone would be fascinated by this device. We will be discussing a lot of great features and other important issues besides the nano coming in six colors.

The New Multitouch iPod nano is much different than its predecessor. It is almost half the size, uses touch screen technology, and has lost its video camera features. You no longer use the arm strap since it now comes with an infamous Apple belt clip. There is disagreement between Apple and knowledgeable users on what operating system is being run on the iPod nano. Apple says it is not iOS even though you can't tell the difference. You can't sync apps on the nano but there are those that will be working on a jailbreak.

This New Multitouch iPod nano is made for athletics, maybe the main reason for it's existence. It has the Nike+ technology and by purchasing a sensor and putting it into the built-in pocket of a Nike+ tennis shoe you then have the technology. The iPod Touch and the iPhone both have the ability but the iPod nano has the size advantage. It also has an accelerometer sensor built in adding to it's athletic capabilities.

Listening to your downloaded music is easy and enjoyable with the smaller size, selection of either a 8 or 16 Mb flash drive 2 models, and ability to accept most common formats besides MP3. Battery life is generally 24 hours audio playback on a full charge. I don't understand why Apple makes such a big deal about the nano's 1.54 inch diagonal multitouch screen. Multitouch screens work better when they are larger. I guess the two finger twist to change the screen orientation is a good use for it but it must add a lot to the price.

You can download pictures from your computer via the USB and adapter cable. The unit is also charged using the USB connection. A full charge takes about three hours. It also has a built in FM radio which is really cool. You can buffer up to 15 minutes of live radio with it's live pause feature. The sound from the earphones is excellent with a frequency range of 20 to 20kHz.

When you look at the 8 Gb New Multitouch iPod nano at $149 for the iPod Touch gives you a lot more features and capability for only $50 more. The Touch also requires you to have a broadband connection. If you need the small size and especially planning on using it for jogging and other athletic endeavors then the New Multitouch iPod nano is for you.
