April Fools' Day 2009: Funny and Safe Office Pranks

Practical Jokes You Can Play at Work Without Getting Fired

Jennifer Walker
April Fools' Day is the perfect day to lighten things up and let your co-workers know you care by playing harmless, yet funny, practical jokes on them. Naturally, you don't want to do anything that will get you or your victim fired, and you do not want to destroy company property while pulling off your office pranks. The best April Fools' Day pranks, whether at the office or not, provide amusement for all without causing any harm. Here are some ideas for fun office April Fools' Day pranks that will not get you fired.

For all of these ideas, you will probably need to either stay late the night before, after the victim leaves, or get to the office very early in the morning so you have plenty of time for your prank.

1. Wrap everything on your victim's desk, including the desk, in aluminum foil. Try to do everything individually, including the papers. Take care to wrap everything carefully so you can still see what the item is.

2. Tape off the entrance to your victim's cubicle and fill it with balloons. This can be done with a solid wall of packing tape, or you can tape butcher paper or saran-wrap across the opening. Get a balloon inflating pump so you don't hyperventilate! Don't use helium or the balloons won't stay put.

3. Turn your victim's work station around-put everything on the opposite side from where it was originally. Carefully move one item at a time so you can make it an exact mirror image of how your victim left it. A similar idea is to turn everything upside down.

4. Cut out pictures of celebrity heads and stick them on your victim's pictures so the celebrity heads are on the bodies in the victim's pictures. Try to use faces with some significance or hilarity-celebrities the victim particularly loves or hates, the wrong gender, the president, someone who has been ridiculed in the news. Be careful that you do not put tape directly on pictures or you might ruin them-only do this with framed pictures, where the picture itself is protected.

5. Have pizza delivered to the office as an anonymous treat, but make them all anchovy. This is a costly practical joke, but it is a way to get the whole office at once.

Have fun with your April Fools' Day pranks, but remember not to get anyone hurt or in trouble during your practical jokes!

LOL Jennifer - these are great! My friend's hubby's office decorated his cubicle in the gear of his college team's rival. The pics were priceless.
