April Fools Day 2009: Pranks to Pull at the Office

Before you play any pranks at work, you will want to make sure that your co-workers are willing to participate. There are many people that will get upset at some pranks. You want to remember that these pranks are meant to be fun and not hurtful. Other than that, April Fools makes everyone fair game to pranks. Pranks at the office can be very entertaining and can help to raise moral. This is also a time to retaliate against the boss and be able to get them back for a year of oppression. If you are the boss, you can get your employees before they get you today. These five pranks are a sure fire way to get some laughs at work and they won't get you in too much trouble. Some of these pranks can be pulled at home as well.

#1: Fun with Saran Wrap:

Saran wrap is not just for the kitchen. With a little thought, you can play a lot of pranks with saran wrap. One prank that many do not think of lies in the bathroom. A shared bathroom or the women's room are the prime locations for this prank, but it can work anywhere. This is pretty simple to plant but you must remember to keep it flat and unnoticeable as possible. You will need to find which toilet you want to use for this prank. You can use all of them but remember that you might have to use the restroom at some point and will want a toilet that you can use. Urinals do not work for this trick, which is why you will want to use the women's or a shared restroom. Once you find the target toilet, you can get started. To do this trick you will want to lift the seat first. Stretch the saran wrap as tight and flat as you can over the toilet basin. You will want to make the saran wrap as see through as you can. The less noticeable the wrap is, the more effective the prank will be. Once you have finished, put the seat back down and look it over. You will want to check it to make sure it does not appear to be messed with. Now just sit back and laugh at everyone that comes out of the restroom with wet paints.

#2: Slippery Handles:

KY Jelly has replaced Vaseline as the new lubricant of choice. It is much less noticeable and even more slippery than its old counterpart is. This makes it more useful in pranks. One classic prank is to put a film of lubricant on door handles. In the office, it can be even funnier. To maximize the laughter on this gag you will want to find the most high traffic door with a rounded knob. Place a nice thin film of the lubricant on the handle. You will want to make it thick enough to be slippery but thin enough to be invisible. If the door that you target is used by people carrying stuff, you can get a lot more laughs as they drop everything in the struggle. If there are no useable doors at your work place, you may want to lubricate the bottom edge of something that needs to be moved that day. Watching someone pick up a large object coated in KY is always great family fun.

#3: The Day Everyone Was Early:

One good trick that can be played at the office is altering the clocks. You will need to either be the last one to leave the prior night or the first to arrive the day of April Fools. You will want to change the main clocks throughout the office. If you set them for one to three hours earlier than it really is, you will get a laugh at how many people are upset at being early. This will cause mass chaos until people finally figure it out. Early morning pranks are often believed because people are not awake at this point. There will be many groans and even some people that will leave and come back later. This is a quick simple gag that has survived the ages.

#4: Secret Admirer:

This prank may cost a little for you to pull off, but can be worth it for the laughs. Getting a vase of flowers and a little card is all that you will need. This is simple to pull off and just takes a little knowledge of some of the office personnel. You will want to find two people that do not get along completely, but are not huge enemies. Address the card from one and place it on the desk of the other. You will want it to appear to be delivered. Another spin is to find a lady at work that is hopelessly single and address the card as being from a secret admirer. This is a nice little prank but can hurt someone's feelings if taken too far. This is a very delicate prank to pull but can net a lot of laughs from many of your co-workers.

#5: You're Fired:

One classic joke for this time of year can be a little touchy in this economy but even more believable. You can send an interoffice memo or email that talks of cutbacks. If you start the rumors early in the day and deliver the memo or e-mail in the early afternoon you can capitalize on the humor. It is even more believable if you get one or two friends to help spread rumors of the company's demise. The rampant confusion and everyone's fear of job loss can bring some great comedy and humor.

All of these are great pranks but the best always come from the imagination. Spur of the moment gags can be the best in any situation. A little thought and ingenuity can create the greatest pranks ever played. You will also want to be on your guard against pranks on this day.
