April Fools!-Man Jailed for a Week on Statutory Rape Charge is a Woman

How Fool-hardy Can One Be?

T. H. Pankey
Is it Alexander David Cross, or is it Elaine Ann Cross? Well, it's Elaine Ann Cross these days. But somebody forgot to tell the arresting officer, the booking officer, and the jailers for 10 days. As he, who had been formerly known as Alexander David Cross, well, is now known as Elaine Ann Cross, again, I think.

This person, Cross, had been in the Hamilton County Jail awaiting a court date. After 10 days of not taking a shower, jailers forced the inmate to do so. Surprise! surprise! Officials at the jail found out that Cross was no man at all, but was a woman. "After about ten days in jail they figure out that Alexander David Cross is a female," prosecutor Boyd Patterson said in court. Ms. Cross was immediately "moved to female isolation" upon finding out, the prosecutor went on to say.

Appearing Wednesday in court following the exposure of her real gender, Cross pleaded guilty to the charge of felony statutory rape before Judge Rebecca Stern. At the beginning of the proceeding, Judge Stern asked the defendant,Cross how she should address her, and she said she should be called, "Alex." The Judge approved a plea deal prosecutors made with Cross in obtaining the admission of guilt. Ms. Cross will get a suspended two-year sentence and six years probation.

The charge stems from an alleged sexual encounter with a 15 yr old girl. Prosecutors alleged that Cross and the 15 yr old girl had sexual relations at least three times during the months of June and July, 2006. The prosecutor said Ms. Cross had committed oral sex on the victim. The plea means no jail time will be required if Cross stays out of trouble for six years. Cross must register as a convicted sex offender and have no contact with the teen. The gender designation of male must also be changed to female on Cross' driver's license.

Forty-two year old Cross pulled the wool over everybody, including the 15 year old teenager whom was very surprised to find out about Cross, to say the least. The 15 year old victim had been enamored with Cross, whom she had thought was a man. The prosecutor said that the 15 year old had fell in love with Ms. Cross, thinking she was a man. She was even considering marrying this person. So when the news broke, she was just as stunned as everybody else. The prosecutor went on to say that the victim just wanted it all to be over with.

The prosecutor said the defendant was told to stay away from the girl at a hearing in juvenile court, last August. However, the defendant kept pursuing the 15 yr. old, even giving her a ring. During that period of time Subsequently, the teenage victim fell in love.

The defendant, Ms Cross, was supposed to be in court earlier, but sent a note to the court explaining that she wouldn't be able to appear because she had to bring her dogs to Florida. Ms. Cross went on to explain that she had been arrested before and was put in jail, and that while she was in jail last time, her dogs had died.

County Detective, Jimmy Clift, went to her residence after that and found her hiding in the attic. That was when she was taken into custody and started her 10-day wait to appear before the Judge.

Ms. Cross' birth certificate lists her as a female with the given name of Elaine Ann Cross. But she later changed her name to Alexander David Cross.

Cross couldn't be reached for comment about the case.

(Part 3 and LAST ONE, promise!) all the humiliation of "cross dressing" and he said, "I didn't choose to be like this! I'd give everything I own to be "normal" like you." It gave me a very different but insightful look into his lifestyle.
Alex, wherever you are, you showed me a kindness when I needed it most. You're a hell of a man, and the tolerance and understanding I had leaving that place will never be forgotten..
Best of luck in all you do.
I'm at PlayitagainSam which is on AOL; I'd would love to see you again.
TMG (your upper-bunk roomy, who learned more from you in a weekend than I would've learned in a lifetime elsewhere.)
    Extraordinary person!

MY POST (part 2 - sorry!) (you couldn't listen to the radio without them.) I had no radio or anything, and he'd let me listen for hours while he sat doing nothing.
The only books I could find were the Bible, a Spanish-English dictionary, and some cheap (and awful romance book.) Alex shared with me a Stephen King book (I was SO grateful for that!) Just before I left, I handed it back to him and told him how awesome I thought the book was and asked him if he enjoyed it as well.
His answer: "I don't know, I just got it the day before you came in."
It was freezing in there, and Alex ripped the ends out of a pair of his heavy tube socks to let me wear on my arms, and wow but I appreciated that!
I don't care which sex he was born with or which one he plans to become.
Alex (or Elaine) was an extraordinarily nice person, and I wish only the very best for him in the future.
Incidentally: Once I asked him why he wanted to be a different sex, why he'd want to go through all the humiliati

I had to serve a 48-hour sentence for A DUI a few years ago, and since I was on medication at the time, I was placed in the "psych" unit.
My first day there was the last day for Alex/Elaine Cross. I'm telling you, you would've NEVER guessed this was a female!
But he (and I say "he" out of respect for his wishes) was undoubtedly one of the nicest people I ever knew. Most definitely the kindest person I met in jail!
I remember how terrified I was going in, as I'd never been inside a jail before, let alone as a prisoner!
When I cried over my predicament, the girl in the cot next to mine promptly cussed me out for "being a p**sy". But Alex, on the bunk above mine, whispered down for me not to worry about her. He said it was completely normal (and he was right.)
He also showed me how to pass the time while there. Since I wasn't there long enough to access the comissery, when he got his "goodies" he shared a Coke and snacks with me. He also shared him radio earplugs with me (you couldn

Right Jamie-I don't get pity mouthing the perpetrator. How about the deception she perpetrated on the minor. That's where the pity should be directed.

I thought strip searching was pretty much a regular routine in jail. Weird.
