Aqua Globes Automatic Plant Watering Product: Does it Work?
Do Aqua Globes Live Up to the Claims Made in the Infomercial?
Aqua Globes are hand-blown glass ornaments that water your plants for you. You fill the Aqua Globe with water, then insert the Aqua Globe into the soil of your plant. The infomercial says it can keep your plants watered for up to two weeks.
As the soil in your plant becomes dry, it releases oxygen into the Aqua Globe. The oxygen will cause the water to be released into the soil of your plant. According to the infomercial you can't under water or over water your plant because it only takes what it needs.
So do Aqua Globes live up to the claims made on the As Seen on TV infomercial? Mostly yes.
My plant seems to be thriving now that I am using Aqua Globes. Before using Aqua Globes I would either under-water the plant and it would turn brown, or I would over-water it and the leaves would turn yellow. Now that I am using Aqua Globes the leaves have stayed a nice, healthy green color.
Can you really go two weeks without watering your plants? No. That's why they say "up to two weeks" on the infomercial. I can usually go four to five days without adding more water to the globes.
Are the Aqua Globes easy to use? Sort of. I had a little trouble filling the Aqua Globes with water. The instructions say, "Hold the globe at a slight angle and use a small stream of water to allow the air inside the globe to escape as you are filling the globe." Sometimes it takes a while to get the right angle. If you don't have the right angle it can take forever to fill the Aqua Globe with water.
Sometimes dirt can clog the Aqua Globe, so watch for signs that the water level isn't going down. It can be difficult to clean that dirt out of the Aqua Globe if the dirt has gotten stuck in the stem of the Aqua Globe. Just keep running water over the stem and the dirt should loosen up.
Before inserting the Aqua Globe into the soil, I recommend using the handle of a wooden spoon to make a hole in the soil. Since Aqua Globes are made of glass, there have been cases of them shattering in people's hands as they tried to insert it into the soil. The instructions even warn: "Failure to follow instructions could damage the Aqua Globes and/or cause injury."
I have seen Aqua Globes sold at Walgreen's, Wal-Mart, CVS Pharmacy and Target. They are also available online at Amazon and the As Seen on TV website.
Overall I feel Aqua Globes are worth the $9.99 I paid for a pack of two. They are beautiful to look at, and I have really enjoyed not having to guess when my plants need water. My plants really seem to be loving the Aqua Globes too as they are looking healthier than they have ever been.

Post a CommentI love my Aqua Globes. I first thought they were ugly but then received them as a gift & so tried them on my Orchid & Christmas cactus plants. They worked great-not too much water or too little. I have since purchased a set of 3 smaller globes for smaller plants. I usually fill them maybe once a week, I also had trouble with the stem clogging with dirt & so I cut a small piece of coffee filter to cover the stem & inserted it into the soil. I make sure that the water is coming out & sometimes I have to pull back on the globe to allow oxygen in but by then they are already into the soil so they won't clog now. I am now going to try a small piece of sponge inserted into the stem. My dislike with the globes would be cleaning the insides to avoid moldy water into my plant. I've used my globes for maybe 5 or more years. Love them!!
My own experience with them has been pretty disappointing. Lovely to look at, they plug almost immediately with soil and break if inserted into a planting medium more coarse like one mixed with gravel. It took more of my time to care for THEM than it did to simply water the plants with a plastic watering can. Great idea with incompletely considered execution. :-{
Good information! I thought these were really neat when I saw them on tv, but I always wondered if they really worked.
