For starters, more than 12,500 sea animals and aquatic life call the aquarium home. The most diversified species in the United States are for all to see with a number nearing 500 different representations. 32 focus exhibits exist for the benefit of fun and learning, in addition to the 19 major habitats on display. "Shark Lagoon" as its known, is Aquarium of the Pacific's most popular attraction, with the ability for visitors to get up close and personal, and in some cases even touching the aquatic predators. The grounds also house an aviary for those fond of exotic birds.
The aforementioned "Shark Lagoon" has roughly 150 underwater predators for your enjoyment. There are shark touch pools to feel the rubbery exterior of the animals themselves, as well as reinforced glass to go nose to nose with your favorite Tiger, Sandbar and Zebra sharks. Ranging 10,000 square feet, this lagoon is not for the faint of heart, but is the perfect setting for those hungry to learn and see their favorites.
The aviary, Lorikeet Forest as it's called, is even more interactive than the "Shark Lagoon." Here birds of all shapes and sizes are free to come and land on your hands and shoulders, as most are curious and friendly to see you as inhabitants. 70% of the time Lorikeets enjoy feeding, so it's a good bet that while in there these birds will be looking for a meal you can provide! Most of the birds present in the aviary travel about 30 miles per day while flying, making them incredibly active and entertaining for visitors.
For a more educational and straightforward ride underwater, the aquarium has "Monsters of the Abyss 3-D," a state of the art show which will have you feeling you are beneath the ocean's surface yourself! Informative and engaging, this 3-D extravaganza is shown daily due to its popularity and unique fun.
For its 10th anniversary and beyond, there is no better time to visit the Aquarium of the Pacific. Families, field trips, and tourists from across all 7 continents have explored the majestic beauty of the Pacific Ocean inside its walls. With seals, otters, your favorite fish or shark, Aquarium of the Pacific has something for everyone, and is a visceral experience all ages can and do enjoy.
