Tree of Knowledge
For this bulletin board you will need to cover the top part of the board with blue butcher paper and the bottom with green paper. You will also need brown paper, scissors, green construction paper, and markers.
Talk to the students about the different types of trees and the importance of trees to our lives and our world. Then allow students to research one fact about trees. Help students trace their hands on the paper and cut it out. Then have students write their fact on the handprint.
While the kids are working on the leaves you can work on the tree trunk and cover the bulletin board with the butcher papers. Finally, help students attach their leaves to the tree so their facts can be read.
Leaf Identification
Another bulletin board idea for Arbor Day uses leaves. Have students bring in leaves that they have found around their home or in the local parks and forests. You will also need crayons, butcher paper, lightweight paper, and markers.
Cover the bulletin board with butcher paper while kids make a rubbing of their leaves. Kids can also use several leaves to create a pattern on the piece of paper. Instruct students to place the leaf under the paper and gently rub the paper with the long side of the crayon to create the leaf pattern. It may help to add another piece of paper underneath the leaf to make the leaf stay in place. Also help children identify the type of leaves they are using on the piece of paper.
You can add to this Arbor Day project by helping students research the trees that their leaves come from and write a fact about the tree on the bottom of the paper. When all of the rubbings are complete help students attach them to the bulletin board.
Arbor Day is an important holiday that makes a great topic for your bulletin board. Children will love creating these Arbor Day bulletin board ideas in the classroom; and they will enjoy learning about the many trees found in nature.
