Arby's Finally Gets with the Program and Adds a Dollar Value Menu

It is the More Expensive Than Its Competitors, but Gives the Value Conscious Choices.

I will say first and foremost that I worked at an Arby's for three years while I was in college and the opinions I am giving about preparation are from when I was employed there. The food there is really good quality and is almost always made fresh. Probably 80% of their sandwiches are made to order and not in a bin. This made working there difficult at times. People also don't realize when they are thinking of the amount of meat on an Arby's roast beef sandwich that the weight is after cooking. The weight on other fast food places burgers are before cooking. For example, a regular roast beef has 3oz of roast beef, but has just as much beef as the McDonald's quarter pounder.

After trying their value menu at select markets Arby's has rolled it out companywide. It is not a very diverse menu, but it is pretty adequate and will probably be really popular with younger kids near colleges or the budget conscious consumers who need to make their dollar stretch and want something other than a burger. The value menu has seven items on it that cover sandwiches, fries, drinks, and desert. The items include a Jr roast beef, Jr ham and cheddar melt, or Jr chicken sandwich. You can choose a value shake or soft drink and there is a value fries. If you want dessert the turnovers are on there. This is about it.

I have tried all of the items on Arby's value menu and find them to be fairly tasty and satisfying. Unfortunately Arby's is calling it a dollar menu, but hardly anything on it is a dollar. The advertising and signs at the store will say "starting at $1". There have been people online discussing complaining about this issue to the managers and just getting a "pathetic sorry but thanks for telling us" in response. Personally I would hate to deal with that when I was working there. I probably would have told someone off, but that is me. I can understand why a consumer would be upset, but to take the time to park your car after going through the drive through and go in to complain really have some issues. In the Delaware and Maryland area I have noticed that the sandwiches are at least $1.25 and the only $1 items are usually the turnover, fries or drink. With those prices a combo type meal would cost you $3.25 for a sandwich, fries, and drink. I think the advertising is pretty stupid. I think they did it just to have dollar mentioned in the ad so people will stop by, but many think it's a rip off. You could get a better value and many burger joints. They are also almost always faster as well.
