Curious, I did a quick Google search. Are they folding, I wondered. Uh, oh! Looks like Archie comics has succumbed to the needs of time, revolutionized and for the first time it introduces "a gay character."
According to the Washington Post, "The character, a blond newbie named Kevin Keller, will debut in No. 202 of Veronica Comics." Wow! ""The introduction of Kevin is just about keeping the world of Archie Comics current and inclusive. Archie's hometown of Riverdale has always been a safe world for everyone. It just makes sense to have an openly gay character in Archie comic books," Archie Comics co-CEO Jon Goldwater said in announcing the news.
Looks like the comic on the stands, which dates to the 1940s,is heading towards major changes. The love-triangle- story between Archie, Betty and Veronica will now see a new twist. The new edition will see Veronica Lodge of Riverdale town pursuing Kevin.
I'm anxious to see how this turns out. As I dug deeper, I found that Indian character, Raj Patel, father Ravi, mother Mona and sister Tina were also introduced lately.
With the advent of these characters, the Archie Comics universe expands.
Will it give the comics a much-needed boost and popularity? Will the contemporary themes hit a chord with the young souls? I can't help but wonder.
This new change in the saga of Archie, Betty and Veronica will take some time to sink in, especially for me. It has been a wonderful part of my growing up years, and I have laughed with the gluttonous Jughead, vain Veronica, the flamboyant Archie and the lovely Betty. Not to forget Reggie, Ethel, Mr. Weatherbee, Grundy, Coach Kleats, and many more.

Wow...it's been a long time since I've read Archie.
I can't remember if I ever read a comic book - I don't think so.
Bravo. What a refreshing story and I must say it's about time. Humanity makes progress one step at a time. :)
I haven't checked out Archie in years. This brings back some great memories.
