'Architecture & Design Film Series' in Denver

The Denver Film Society is presenting the 3rd annual "Architecture + Design Film Series." It runs September 8 - October 1, 2011 and while regular film goers might feel slightly detached, several films will raise a few beams for the architecturally savvy.

The series of films and discussions will be held at the Denver Film Center/Colfax, with receptions at various Denver restaurants and lounges. If you are going to explore the realms of architecture and design through film, this is the series to do it with. Post-screening Q&A sessions and discussions will deeply enhance these enlightening documentaries.

Documentaries include "How Much Does Your Building Weigh, Mr. Foster?" about the innovative architect Norman Foster. It explores Foster's influence on modern architecture and his prophetic visions as the world's populace migrates in mass from country mouse to city mouse. His ideas will have formative influence as countries like China experience this migration.

Other documentaries include a poetic look into Belgium's exquisite Train station, "Antwerp Central Station," the revolutionary influence of the Bauhaus school in "Bauhaus: Model and Myth," an artistically adventurous architectural group from the 70s in "Space, Land and Time: Underground Adventures with Ant Farm," a look into the man who photographically captured the world's greatest architecture in "Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Schulman.

On Thursday, September 29, the series will feature the World Premiere of "Eames: The Architect and the Painter," about the fascinating collaboration of Charles and Ray Eames. There are also two documentaries about architecture in China with the epically proportioned project to build the Olympic stadium in Beijing, "Bird's Nest: Herzog and De Meuron in China," and a look at the building boom in Beijing, which has tapped some of the world's leading architects, "New Beijing: Reinventing a City."
