Archos 7 8G Home Tablet Review

It seems like every second technology advances a little further. It probably seems that way because it's true. In the forever evolving realm of electronics, it's growing increasingly hard to keep up with what deserves your money and what doesn't.

With the economy gradually recovering we're finding that extra spending money that we were deprived of for the last few years. In a world where game consoles, phones, computers, and just about every other piece of tech can become obsolete in a matter of minutes, just what is worth purchasing and what should you pass on? On the table this time is the Archos 7 8GB Home Tablet.

For those not enthralled by the Apple iPad, the Archos 7 is, honestly, a dream. It's extremely affordable in comparison at $199, it's comfortable to hold, and it functions just as well. The iPad has, without a doubt, the higher technical specs. Does this make it a better buy than the Archos 7? Certainly not. The fact of the matter is that a lot of that power goes to waste if all you want to do is comfortably watch videos and play the occasional game.

That's exactly what the Archos 7 is in essence. This humble home tablet fills in that vacuum in the market. Consumers unwilling to shell out the extra cash for the iPad or its higher end alternatives now have an appealing, more budget-friendly option.

Not all is well with the Archos 7 8GB home tablet. Holding it doesn't inspire the confidence in durability that you might have with its competitors. You can also tell from looking at it that the materials aren't as high-end as others. And, I should mention, it isn't exactly the trendiest looking piece of tech. As I said its comfortable to hold, but as far as technical slabs go- it's a bit unappealing on the eyes. The lower price tag is what you get in exchange for a more homely, slower experience.

Negatives aside, the Archos 7 is a wonderful device for budget-conscious consumers. It offers a rival experience to the iPad while not breaking the bank. The lack of Adobe Flash and access to the Android store are a real shame- honestly the two most hurtful issues with the device. For those that want an inexpensive alternative to the iPad that still packs a 'Wow' and makes a social statement- you'll be sorely disappointed. Those not interested in the glam and glitz of a high-end home tablet and interested only in the basic media needs, the Archos 7 is a great buy.
