Arclight: The Arc Of the Cinema Scene

One drive through the area where the Arclight rests does not make one think of grand Hollywood premieres or glamor of the stars. It's a bit bleak, especially at night if you wander into the surrounding side streets. Yet, it is not in a bad area at all. It's located at the corner of Sunset and Vine, and that is real estate heaven in Los Angeles. At its throne at the famous intersection, you can see the dome of the theater. That is what is first seen. It's the famous Cinerama dome that has been transformed into the Arclight dome, and the theater houses several smaller theaters as well.

You can choose your seat in advance like you would for a play or a musical performance. Arclight treats their movies like events. There is none of this rush to wait in line for hours to get a great seat when a popular movie premiers. You can get your tickets well in advance, and you can arrive a minute before start time to still get the best seats in the house. Assigned seating helps you choose wherever you want to see the movie.

You need never be bored for a moment at the Arclight, even if you arrive hours before the start time of your movie. You may end up parting with more cash than is anticipated for a simple afternoon matinee, but you will be well treated. You can shop at the very interesting gift shop that houses everything form novelty gifts to gorgeous journals to the latest gossip magazine.

Perhaps you want to see art while you wait. That is a way to describe the Arclight art experience. There is always original art on display...either paintings or photography or other creative endeavor. It lines the halls upstairs and downstairs. The exhibits change frequently.

If you like to be the first in the know or cannot wait to see a fantastic movie, you can go to the frequent midnight movies. They take place on Thursday night going into Friday morning at midnight. The theater is allowed to show the movie the second it turns midnight on the opening day, and they take advantage of this with very popular midnight screenings. As long as parking is not an issue in your building (as it is by too many in Los Angeles), these midnight movies are not to be missed. Just be sure to arrive well-rested. Take a nap or wake up late. You want to be awake for all the fun...and the drive home.
