Are Your Aging Hands Making You Look Older Than You Are?

If our eyes are the windows to our souls, what are our aging hands? Are they the indicator of what kind of life we lead? Do they scream out that we are a hard worker? Do the express the fact that we live a pampered life? Do they just plainly make us look older than we are?

Look at your hands what do you see? Do you see dry skin? Do you see wrinkles? Do you see age spots? Do you see hands that do not look like your own? How can you turn back the hands of time that are showing on your hands? Here are some tips.

Hand Fillers

Yes, we can fill the lines on our hands, just as we can fill the lines on our face. These are done through hyaluronic acid based injectectables. The top ones are: Juvederm, Perlane and Restylane. They are performed in your dermatologist office.

If your hands are becoming thin, you may choose to use a fat filler. Fat fillers will add volume to your hands. This is performed in a two step procedure. First, fat is removed from another part of your body and then injected into your hands.

Brown Spots

The best way to treat a brown spot according to the dermatologist is through the use of a laser. This is a procedure that causes the patient no pain and almost instant results.

Collagen Treatments

Yes, just like collagen is used for our face to promote skin growth. For our hands, a new laser treatment is used to help promote our own collagen to begin forming. This is a process known as hand rejuvenation.

Yet, there are some simple things we all can do to help stop reduce the signs of aging hands. This includes:

  • Applying sunscreen to our hands. Yes, the sun can damage the skin of our hands as it can any part of our body.
  • Applying a good moisturizing lotion to our hands nightly, preferably one that contains vitamins A and E.
  • Using hand soap with extra moisturizes in them
  • Using more soap than antibacterial gels to clean your hands. Antibacterial gels have a lot of alcohol in them, which can cause drying effect on the skin.

Yes, our hands get a workout every day. Yet, this is not an excuse to allow them to become dry, flaky and filled with lines faster than they should. Fight the signs of aging hands as you would the signs of aging on your face.

Every winter, my hands chap and crack unless I lather on the cream. They do tend to show age faster than other body parts! cheers :)
