Are the American Political System and the "DC Mentality" Irredeemable?

Snidely Whiplash
I have an idea...let's give the Tea Party change merchants a chance before we throw in the towel. I offer this because of the rampant mindset that this nation's political system, the DC mindset and the political class are irredeemable. I am not so sure they are. I am not claiming as is well and the ship of state is no longer listing, but I do honestly believe we need to first counter the current list to port.

I am of the firm belief if the Tea Party politicos sent to DC remain true to their cause they will influence this situation and put us back on the path to the classically liberal founding principles that will fix this nation.

As I have said before, every system must be operated as designed or the system will not operate properly. No wheels on a car removes from it its entire purpose for being. Not operating a Constitutional Republic designed to be run by classically liberal principles sees the same result. To fix this error we must return us to the principles of the founding. Every other effort but that will see similar results - rampant failure and ineffective government wasting time, money and resources as if they were in endless supply and were free of charge.

At present we have enjoyed a turning over a new leaf as it were. A rise in grassroots Americanism manifest itself in the Tea Party principles which in case one forgot, TEA is an acronym for "Taxed Enough Already." Of course it's a clever play on words and hearkens back to the Boston Tea Party. Both addressed taxation - the Boston version for taxation without representation and the current iteration as grassroots citizens demanding government be true to its limited government roots. And for this the Tea Party types are attacked.

So, will there really be change in DC? Will politicians actually remain true to the principles upon which they ran? I believe too many are so fed up and so without faith in the system that they believe no one will ever again be true to their campaign promises. We need to let some time pass before we toss in the towel and decide all American politicos are not in it to serve but in it for themselves. I think it unfair to not grant them the time to prove to the nation who they are.

Recall when Obama was elected we were told over and over we need to give him time before we judge him, yet many are not seemingly willing to give the time and leverage the new political class needs to affect change if that is their true intention. If it is not, we'll see soon enough. It's way too early to give up. It's too early to pronounce every politician a dirty SOB. Citizens need to remember despite our best intentions, people often live up or down to what is expected of them.

Expect nothing from others and nothing is what one usually gets. Hold people to a higher standard and they will often live up to that expectation. Call them all evil, corrupt, whatever and that may as well become a self-fulfilling prophecy. You know it's true. If one dislikes their neighbor John, don't they usually default to the expectation that in any issue of contention it is the disliked John that is the one who's wrong? And if we like Bill, we usually by default give Bill every benefit of the doubt. For the new political class to have any hope of remaining true to their promises, we must expect them to. If we default to calling them all corrupt, they will surely meet that expectation. See how it works?

Do you expect the best from your progeny by reminding them at every chance they are akin to human excrement? Does your kid get an "A" in class after you tell him he's an idiot too stupid to get it? I do not mean to be so pedantic in presenting this but we need to remember everyone preforms basically as we expect them too.

I will default to trusting the Tea Party politicos until they prove otherwise. I will not lump them in as corrupt and self absorbed until I see they are. If we want better from them, we need to make sure they know that is what we expect, demand and will tolerate nothing else. If we do that I believe we may just get what we voted for.

Treat them with the dignity they deserve and make sure they know we expect them to be as they promised they would and I believe human nature may take hold. We all want to be seen fairly and treated with respect. It does not lend to that end if we proclaim them all corrupt. Give them a year and then we'll know. Support them in the meantime and maybe we'll get a pleasant surprise. I can't guarantee we will, but I can 100% absolutely guarantee if we don't we won't!

It is a general truth of life that one usually gets what they expect and deserve. I'll withhold judgment until I they've had a chance to live up to their promises. Perhaps if you want the return to honor you'll give 'em a chance as well.

We are no. 2 on the lowest taxed nations on earth, second only to Switzerland. (http://www.businesspundit.com/12-countries-with-the-highest-lowest-tax-rates/). Do people think the country runs on "the kindess of strangers?"

This article is all about expectations. Have them and people will live up to them. The problem with progressive Americans is that they have no expectations for themselves, surely not from their elected officials. They put people like themselves in the White House and Congress.

If I gave them the dignity they deserved I'd be serving time in the pokey. LOL! No. It's not too early to call all politicians dirty, low-life, corrupt SOBs. Not too early at all. In fact, it may be a little too late.

One prayer that I have is that the likes of Trent Lott and Lindsey Graham keep their hads off this new crop. Those two are poor gardeners.
