Are Americans Intimidated by the Thought of a Female President?

It's that time again, and America will soon be responsible for choosing the next President of the United States. Over the past years, decisions have been made that have angered many, while others cheered and applauded. Playing out as one of the most controversial presidencies of American History, not only have we been attacked, but we've attacked. Iraq has become the focal point, promising to be the decision maker for the next President. How long will our troops be in Iraq? How are we going to leave? The majority of America believes that this has gone on for long enough, and it's now time to explore what a new president can do to benefit America and turn things around.

One of the major candidates for the 2008 Presidential election is Hillary Rodham Clinton, the junior United States Senator from New York and a member of the Democratic Party. Married to Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, she is no stranger to the political system. Opinions vary, and while others believe she has what it takes to change this country around, others don't. This leads me to my major question. Regardless of my opinion of whether or not she would hold the position of President as well as others could, I often ask myself this question. Is America intimidated by the thought of having a female President? Throughout history, women have fought their way to earning the same respect as men. While not attempting to sound sexist, some believe that a woman does not have the intimidation factor that a man carries, and while times are dangerous, this is much needed. Others believe that women hold specific qualities that men don't, and that this may bring big change in the White House.

The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal, but the truth is that all men and women are created equal. While this shouldn't hinder the decision of voters, the truth is that it just may. It could take a strong woman to stand up for what she believes to prove otherwise, and that may be the best thing for America, also bringing future Presidential women.

The possibility of Hillary Rodham Clinton not becoming President for simply being a woman is not the only thing that could hinder her success. Voters are also hoping for a fresh start. For several years, the Presidential responsibilities have rested in the hands of the Clinton Family, as well as the Bush Family. Most agree that a fresh start is the key ingredient to having a successful country.

At this point in the game, it is uncertain whether or not Clinton has a fighting chance, however, we can hope that voters make their decision based on what the candidate has to offer, rather than whether they are a man or a woman.

From the statements, I have read now more than ever Hillary need to run for President. I am sixteen so I can't vote but times are changing. In other countries, such as, Egypt,Iran,India, they have women in very powerful postions. If I COULD I say vote for Hillary!!!

I agree with your decision. I too, would not vote for Clinton, for reasons aside from her being a woman.

    Thank you for the comments.

Either Clinton is not bright enough to know the reason GWB and his buddies decided to violate the UN Charter making the USA guilty as global war criminals or she is one of them. By doing this, hatred for the USA was aroused globally which put us in danger of being attacked if other nations united against us. She did stand up to Bush on the Dubai port deal and co-sponsored legislation to prevent future Election fraud, but her "kill innocent females and children" for oil stance does not make for a good President to me.

There is no "America" there are a whole bunch of different people with different viewpoints. As a feminist I would love to see a female President. As a woman, I would never in a thousand years vote for Senator H. Clinton. Iraq was switching to the Euro which was going to hurt the USA in World Trade economy. The US is the largest importer of oil and has little of value to export, except perhaps tobacco. Of course, the government is trying to put the tobacco farmers out of business. A good President would have been instituting laws to conserve oil and start utilizing the available alernative sources of energy.
