Are Blonds Really Stupid?

It makes me wonder how blonde's feel today being stereotyped as being dumb. Television, movies, etc have depicted the blond as being an air head and basically naive. In this article I will attempt to look at the history of this stereotype and its origin.

Dumb blond

Many believe the origin of the dumb blond began with Marilyn Monroe. She played the dumb blond in many movies and as part of her Hollywood rep. Marilyn was loved by many and to be honest she was far from dumb. Elton John wrote a song called the "Candle in the Wind" which depicts the story of Marilyn Monroe. If Marilyn was really dumb than she was a successful one cause she inspired many fans and turned the head of one President of the United States.

The intelligence factor does not rest in hair color. People we could call dumb can be blond, brunette, or redhead. It makes no difference really what hair color you are born with or even if you dyed it another color it won't take away from your intelligence.

If there are such a thing as dumb blonds two celebrities I know who would fir the bill. One is the late Anna Nichole Smith and the other is Brittney Spears. Anna wanted to be famous and her choices in life would put her in this category. Brittney on the other hand just never grew up and her choices have also been stupid. Until she grows up a bit she will continue to make bad choices.

Blonds have more fun

One of the hair color manufacturers came up with a commercials that blonds have more fun. We see pictures of the California beach girl and they were usually blond. For awhile being a blond was in. Some would dye their hair and get away from their natural color to be a blond. The thinking was that boys desired blonds over other girls. Maybe the brunette sabotaged the blond in order to get equal attention who knows. From some the beach movies in the fifties and sixties we see many blonds depicted as not being too smart. Its always the blond who dies first in horror movies. I guess we can thank movies and TV for this stereotype.

Blond jokes

There have been numerous blond jokes and more being written and told all the time. I have to admit that the jokes are funny just like the redneck jokes. Most jokes are told as all in good fun and in no way are depicting how it really is. Most blonds are not even offended by them. I have passed on some blond jokes myself in over the years. They are funny and most of us laugh and do not think anything about it.

Blond moment

Now if you do something dumb or say something stupid it is said that you had a blond moment. Anyone of any hair color can have a blond moment. A blond moment takes place when we do or say something that would be depicted as stupid. It only last for a few moments and than all sound reasoning returns. Maybe you was too close to a blond when it occurred.

This article is all in good fun but there isn't any scientific correlation to being a blond and lacking intelligence. Blonds are not any dumber cause they are blond but we love to joke about it anyway.
