Are Candidates Missing the Mark when it Comes to Acing Job Interviews?

Many New Jersey families are in for a rough holiday season. With the state's unemployment rate reaching 9.8 percent in September, candidates vying for employment face stiff competition.

The lackluster hiring climate is producing fewer and fewer job interviews.

Two years ago, Carlotta Jones was in a similar position. One month to the Christmas holidays, the former sales manager lost her job, and finding a replacement looked bleak. The company's decision to close one of their locations left Jones and hundreds of others out of work.

"I believe that some contenders are missing the mark when it comes to acing job interviews and closing the deal, says Jones, a workforce intelligence trainer and founder of Talent Synergy.

In a series of seminars she will be conducting in the South Jersey region, Jones will take prospective employees Inside the Job Interview.

She will teach them simple, yet sound tactics they should employ to stand out from the rest of the candidates, including:

(1) How to respond to interview questions in a way that exceeds the interviewer's expectations

(2) How to be about solutions. Company managers want candidates that are problem solvers

(3) How to identify and sell their strongest skill set and attribute in a way that complements the company's mission

(4) How to demonstrate that they will fit not only into a team environment, but also be a valuable player, if hired

Jones decided to put her 15 years experience as trainer and team manager to good use after losing her position with Deluxe Corporation.

In December 2007, she founded Talent Synergy - a company that helps small businesses train, and subsequently, retain a motivated and productive workforce.

Jones will kick off her Inside the Interview tour on November 18 at the Evesham Public Library. This two-hour hands-on educational session is free and open to the public.

Her next workshop will take place at the Willingboro Public Library on November 23 at 6:00 p.m.

To register for the workshop or for more information, contact Talent Synergy at 877-207-8893 or send an email to info@talentsynergy.com.
